Oh my goodness, these were a WHOLE LOT.
So originally, when I first started daydreaming about making this costume back in like… November? I wanted to make Giorno's buggies out of resin! I follow a lot of resin artists on Instagram that have been using holographic or duochrome foils in resin pieces. I fell in love with the effect, but I had to let the dream go because I didn't have the time or money to be experimenting with resin.

About a week ago, I started trying to figure out what I wanted to do with Gio's bugs. I was just going to make them out of foam and paint them bright fuschia, but then I saw the gardening stones at the craft store and had the idea to paint the backside of them so that they looked like resin. It took another day to realize I could put colorshifting foil behind the stones.

I spent a day experimenting with different adhesives to stick the foil to the back of the gem. I tried modge podge, modge podge gloss spray, spray adhesive, and triple thick. Triple thick worked the best in filling in the grooves under the stone, adhering the foil to the stone, and brightening the colors of the foil. I let them cure for 24 hours then did a second layer of triple thick over the back of the foil to really seal it in. After another 24 hours, I painted the ladybug details on top of the stones with black acrylic paint and did a final layer of triple thick over top.

For the zipper ladybug, I found a pendant at the craft store, popped the gem out of the middle of it, painted it with gold leaf, and glued the little ladybug on top

For the two chest ladybugs, I found some settings at the craft store that I painted with gold leaf then glued a crystal chain around the border with e6000. I also used e6000 to glue industrial strength magnets to the backs of the chest and tummy ladybugs because I didn't want to glue them directly to the jacket or make them into pins.
