Well, here we are! Episode 1 of series 3 and I am SO EXCITED! It's been a funny ride so far, as I was so convinced that Doctor Nine would be my one and only, and yet Doctor Ten is here and I adore him just as much. I didn't know what to expect with going to a new doctor, and I have to say I am definitely not disappointed. I adore him so, so much 💜

And now we meet one of my favourite companions! Martha Jones is ICONIC! Strong willed and a bad b*tch!! I adore her! Fun fact: you’ve already seen this actress. Freema was in the finale of S2 where she, in fact, played her now deceased cousin Adeola! I think after her performance in the S2 finale, production were so impressed by her and wanted her back as a companion! They then had to write into the story that Martha’s cousin was the one that died, so as to not confuse audiences since it’s the same actress but playing different characters!! I hope you love her as much as I do 🩷

Just finished the reaction and seen that you looked up Freema and realised you'd seen her before!! Glad you made the connection <3

So, Martha. Not sure how I feel about her yet. Granted, I've only watched the first two episodes with her so far and I'm sure I'll warm up to her soon enough, but man I miss Rose! As for this episode I liked it well enough and thought it a decent introduction to the new companion. I also liked the design of the Judoon and was immediately reminded of Rocksteady from the TMNT cartoon that I used to watch when I was a kid. Not the best bad guy we've seen, and pretty easily thwarted, but I guess the emphasis was really on establishing the new companion so that's understandable. I'm looking forward to seeing what this season has in store, I'm sure there'll be some great episodes along the way. Juliette, thanks for another fun reaction. Have a great day!

During the classic run The Doctor had a number of companions or 'assistants' as you can imagine. Not all the were necessarily human, from earth, were different time periods or a combination thereof.

The judoon are galactic police, mercenaries and bounty hunters. So, Mandos.

I've been watching Doctor Who since the late seventies, my Doctor was Tom Baker. Going into "New Who" with some trepidation I found myself pleasently surprised with just how good Chris Eccleston was in the role. However, Tennant's Doctor rapidly became my absolute favourite. There are some amazing episodes this season and an overarching story that is truly brilliant and for which the first seeds have already been sown. Great reaction again, can't wait for more. <3

I absolutely agree!! I think it's incredible how they are able to continue with this show for so long by the innovative use of regeneration. I never thought I'd love Tennant in this role as much as I do but he is so perfect 💜

I don't think it's just us who miss Rose 😭 Our doctor seems to really miss her, too... It really makes me wonder about his true feelings for Rose. I do think he loves her, but then I also wonder if that's a bit of a faux pas for a doctor to love his companion... And will this happen with every one? I'm so curious to see what happens!! Thank you, Neil. I hope you have had a lovely week so far 💜 I got in my car today after it had been parked outside and it said 44 degrees so I'm really not that happy right now 🤣

xjuliettex

I was sure I'd seen her before but thought I was just going mad 🤣 It's really surprising they'd use an actress who we'd only just seen recently, but she must have made a really good impression 💜

Neil Hanson

Can I come and sit in your car? It's barely above 0 here so 44 is sounding pretty good right now! 😂

This has already been referenced, but yeah, the BBC is famous for re-using actors for fun and profit. Fun drinking game: take a shot whenever you see an actor in another role, and see how many you can achieve. So far, I'm up to 'Why is the room spinning, and where did I put my trousers?'

During the '80's and 90's, BBC1 ran a comedy show starring Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones. The show was called, appropriately enough, ALAS SMITH & JONES. I don't know if this episode's title stemmed from that. But it makes sense.

Anyone else notice that the doctor who was drained of blood by the vampire-lady was named Dr. Stoker? As in Bram Stoker, the author of DRACULA?

Loved the reaction as always, cant wait to see your reactions for this series as it is a really good one and it has one of the all time greats in it

The Doctor seems to have a penchant for "bring your Doctor to work day." In Rose the Doctor met Rose at her workplace. In Runaway Bride, the Doctor and Donna went to her workplace to get access to where the Racnoss were. And now in Smith and Jones, the Doctor is at the hospital where Martha works. Not sure if this is on purpose or just a coincidence lol. As far as character introductions go, this is probably my favorite one at this point.
