Yay, I remembered to schedule it this time!

So, we have a new friend called Captain Jack and at this point, I'm not sure how I feel about him! He's VERY flirty and suave and a bit of a Jack of all trades, it seems! Maybe he will grow on me more as we go along 😅

This episode was a bit spooky, but it mostly just made me feel sad for the little boy. I can happily say that I don't really want to see a gas mask again. Ever, really. Nightmares!

Another wonderful episode, but when are they not 🥰

have a lovely day leading into a nice weekend! This week has gone WAY too quickly!!

My mum was a child during the Blitz. Kids poking around bomb sites was just something that happened.

After Season 2, I suggest you jump into a spin-off series in the DW universe - TORCHWOOD. I, being a dumb person, watched TORCHWOOD before DW. Which actually led to a whole lot of 'Holy SH#T!' moments.

Your first story penned by this particular writer for Who. Perhaps they will creep you out again in the future, or the past, or what ever wobbly way you'd like to interpret time.

I was considering Torchwood, but I might do a community poll closer to the time. The problem with reacting to Torchwood after season 2, is that there would be a break of about 3 months of Doctor Who so I can watch Torchwood, and I don't know if people would be okay with that! Unless I just watch it by myself, which I can get through much quicker 😸

Torchwood Season 1 takes place more or less contemporaneously with Season 3 of Doctor Who (insofar as that makes sense in a show about time travel). You could alternate between Torchwood and Doctor Who (though I'd recommend not breaking up two-parters). There's a viable watch order to interleave the two series, though. I do strongly recommend watching Torchwood, though. It's a bit darker in overall tone but it's very good.

The future's a pretty big place, so it's not surprising if the Doctor doesn't know Jack.

I agree with this, you could alternate between TW and DW, but keep any 2-parters in tact. There's another spin off "SJA" (I'll keep the full title hidden for now in case it's considered a spoiler). That takes place after DW season 3. It would mean juggling 3 series for a while, but not for long.

Four words that strike terror into the heart of every Whovian -“Are you my mummy?” 😱😱 This is such a great story, and gets even better in part 2. It demonstrates that you don’t need massive special effects and sets to create a sense of horror and dread - just a child in a gas mask repeating the same phrase over and over. They also did a wonderful job recreating London during the Blitz with minimal resources. Nancy is a great character - smart and resourceful in looking after the homeless kids, and just a little mysterious. The actress does a great job. I certainly hope she survives into part 2! As for Captain Jack, we’ll time will tell just how reliable he is, but he certainly oozes charisma🙂.

I would hold off Torchwood until at least after DW S2. If you did decide to dip in to it and any other spin-offs, you could do something like alternate between the main DW and the spin-off - maybe 2 weeks of DW and 1 week of TW (or other spin-off). That could keep the momentum of both still going, while still concentrating on the “main” show. Just a suggestion.

That sounds like it could be a good plan, Lloyd! I will have to find out more when we reach the end of Season 2. I've read about a watch order list very briefly, and I'll have to double check, but I thought it said to watch all of Torchwood in one go before going onto Who season 3. I am not keen on the idea of stopping Who for months until Torchwood is done!

The cool thing about both spinoff series is that they are self-contained stories in their own right. You could just watch all of Dw, loop back to Torchwood and SJA (SARAH JANE ADVENTURES, in case it wasn't mentioned) afterwards. Again, I watched TORCHWOOD before DW, which is a completely FUBARed watch order, and still enjoyed it.

You've certainly given yourself a dilemma here Juliette! Both Doctor Who and Buffy have spin-off shows that I'm sure many people would like, or even expect, you to watch. Alternating does sound like the best way to do it if you're thinking of watching them though.

xjuliettex

That is true, Paul! I guess I wondered due to them both being able to time travel.

xjuliettex

He absolutely oozes charisma! It's no wonder Rose was a little smitten at first sight. I think anyone would find it hard to resist his charms 🤣

James Hawkins

Captain Jack is a mystery. In the classical period, there are some non-human, non-Gallifreians who time travel. But as far as I can remember he is the first modern day human(oid) that we have seen who can.

I’ve been a fan of Doctor Who for a long time. I was three years old when I first started watching the series in 1965. I remember watching the first regeneration of the original Doctor played by William Hartnell into the Second Doctor played by Patrick Troughton. Became a Whovian immediately.
