Today I got to sketch another set of poses, this time the more complex batch of full body poses I'm still missing for the next comic update ( I need to do a FEW more now, but not too many )

And here is a perfect example of how I completely and utterly SQUANDERED a sketch. I loved the original red pencil sketch SO MUCH that I made sure to scan it first before I could line it, already having my suspicion that I wouldn't be able to nail it with my markers.

And that's exactly what happened, I utterly failed. The moment I removed the red outlines I was left with a flat and lifeless pose. So I scanned the abomination and put the original red pencil sketch as a background layer underneath it. With that done, I could do my final outline and correct the face in Photoshop and added the pose into the prepared panel.

Guzma turned out completely fine.
Somehow he ALWAYS looks great.

Once again, I have to praise your use of references for your artworks. It's inspiring to know that artists don't always just create their pieces by memory - they need help too. Do you use references for all of your drawings? Or just when you're in a pickle, if you will, and need some help deciding on poses and such?

Thank you Joan! :D I think you'd be surprised to know just how often Artists use references or create them themselves! Sometimes I reference material 1:1, other times I already have a clear idea of the pose and just need to see how a body-part bends and integrate it into the sketch. The more I get to draw humans, the more I memorise how the human body works and by now there's a set of poses I could technically draw without a reference too - but trust me, there's no shame in using them and your drawing will ALWAYS look more on point with some images for reference in your repertoire, so even with poses I've drawn hundreds of times before I still take a photo just in case. For animals / fantasy creatures its different by the way - I'm FAR more used to drawing animals, so my use of references is a bit more loose and Pokemon like Aegislash I can draw completely from memory in all sorts of poses 😂 NEVER Draw a HORSE without a reference tho. You may be able to draw a head without a reference, but trust me, you do NOT want to attempt a GALLOP without a clear picture 😂
