Nearly every time the request poll culminates in a heads-up contest between All-Time Classic and Relative Obscurity, I assume All-Time Classic will win by a landslide, and then the victory narrowly goes to Relative Obscurity. In this case, it was Taxi Driver bested 48-52 by Elephant—not Van Sant's Palme d'Or winner (we all know how I feel about that...and if you don't, well, it ain't my favorite), but Alan Clarke's medium-length experimental portrait of the Troubles, from 1989. Technically, this film is a short (and so won't get an official rating), but I decided to make it eligible since it only misses my arbitrary cutoff by six minutes and is something I've been meaning to see for ages. Apparently you can just rent it via Apple/iTunes/whatever, two bucks.
