…if you wanted City Lights to win this week’s request poll, as it was defeated by last week’s loser, Throw Down. Apparently, the vote was tied coming down to the wire, and To’s film won only because George Hawtin switched allegiance at the last minute (seemingly just to prevent a tie). In any case, I’m hoping it’s more Drug War than Election. Streaming on the Criterion Channel.

(Random-drawing selections for May will be announced separately in a few hours—my sister’s housekeeper is at work this afternoon, and to get out of her way I’m currently seated for Are You There God? Did You Like Margaret?)

I'm no hero, I just hate waiting an extra day for the random draw. Also, I'm kind of a hero. Not all heroes wear capes. Except for me. I do wear a cape.

Speaking of wavelengths, I most definitely was not on the same one as THROW DOWN. Hope you have a better experience.

As the person who submitted Throw Down, I can confirm you are definitely a hero!

Ironically, you still have to wait (albeit not nearly as long). Sorry about that.

Fun fact: The last commercial release I saw at this theater (Kabuki 8, San Francisco), as far as I know, was 1997’s The Boxer. (I was also here in ’98 seeing an ND/NF title I’d missed in NYC; that was the day I met Ryan Wu.)

One of my fave theaters. Love the Japan Center Mall. (Probably love the mall more than the theater, but they go hand in hand in my mind.)

Yes, we met at a SFIFF screening. What was the film we saw?

I wasn’t sure whether you saw the film or just met me before or after. It was The Perfect Circle, Bosnian war drama. Don’t remember a frame.
