Gotta say I think edging Daniel Waters like this is a bit cruel. Once again, Smile (his request; the 1975 film, not the recent horror thing) went down to decisive defeat in the weekly poll, this time to fellow prior loser Summer, as I think I'm gonna feel obligated to still call it. (I'd switch to The Green Ray were there, say, a recent U.S. Blu-ray using that title or something. Otherwise, I tend to stick with whatever title was used for the U.S. theatrical release.) I watched it in 2001 and I apparently didn't then consider it top-tier Rohmer, since I didn't add it to my '86 list. Details have gone fuzzy, so another look is welcome. Streaming on the Criterion Channel, though Criterion seems either unable or uninterested in securing the rights to any of his films other than les contes moraux. (I'd kill for a Comedies and Proverbs box set.)
