I suspect this is the first time that the poll winner has been a film that its original advocate withdrew that very week, prompting someone who saw that in the comments to pick it up and keep it in the running. Having bailed on We're All Going to the World's Fair last year, I can't honestly say that I'm enthused to try again, but at least it'll be over in 86 minutes, which would decidedly not have been the case with runner-up Sátántangó. A close race, too, 52/48. You can find Schoenbrun's cult fave conveniently streaming on HBO Max.

Over in the monthly random drawing, we have Steve Buscemi's Trees Lounge, recently withdrawn after doing the minimum four weeks (it can be enough!), and Alan Parker's The Commitments, which had been an active option for the past five months without ever gaining any traction that I noticed. I quite liked both the last time I saw them, which in both cases was at least 26 years ago. (Actually reviewed Trees Lounge at the time, so I hope there's something to add. Maybe I'll go the Scream route and annotate my notes, haven't done that in a while.) The Commitments is rentable via the standard platforms and Trees Lounge is streaming free or with ads in more places than I care to list, including Kanopy.

By the way, I saw that Breathless nearly made it at #4 and then realized that I don't recall, and have no record of, whether one of you had requested the Godard original or the McBride remake. Which was it, whoever that was? I think maybe it was Waters and the latter? Long time ago, it's one of the earlier requests still kicking. If nobody remembers, I can just wade through back polls and see whether it was in Films I've Seen ('60) or Films I've Never Seen ('83).

As always, my thanks to each of you for generously supporting my foolishly chosen "profession." There are nearly 800 of you now, which is roughly 10x more than I expected when I launched this endeavor just shy of four years ago. You're all the very best.

Your "Patreon Poll Requests" list on LB only has the 1983 version of Breathless so that must be it.

Duelle a double runner up this week. It will have its day…hopefully before Shocktober.

I only sorta remember TREES LOUNGE, but my family had Much Music (Canada's MTV equivalent) and they sure played the hell out of the video for the Hayden song he wrote for the soundtrack.
