(That's the end of the third story, in case the description doesn't ring a bell. Note that I ruled the bulk of story #2 ineligible, because that office scene runs about 25 minutes, which is well over my cutoff. 14 seconds I can live with. Five minutes, no.)

HISTORY:

Schrader previously placed 18th for Affliction (1998) and 5th for First Reformed (2018).

Pugh is now solidly a new AVB favorite, having placed four times in five years (including her outright Supporting Actress win for 2019's Little Women); she also came in 20th for Lady Macbeth (2017) and 3rd for Midsommar (2019). Similarly, this is Holland's third nod in the past six years, following a 12th place finish in Supporting for Moonlight (2016) and a 10th place finish for High Flying Bird (2019). Gaga (I guess that's what we call her?) landed a couple notches higher at #16 for A Star Is Born three years ago. Patel is new—I checked to see how he fared for Slumdog Millionaire, and the answer is: zero votes. Also zero votes for Chappie. [whispers] That's not Chappie.

As far as I can tell, neither Brac nor Paillé (who've collaborated before) has previously written a feature that was Skandie-eligible. This one likely wouldn't have been as recently as 2019, but I finally accepted the new reality last year and now allow streaming-only releases on platforms like MUBI, plus entirely unreleased titles from two years ago (which had previously been sequestered into a separate poll, the Undies). Will any of the latter crack the survey proper? The suspense may or may not be killing you.

Oh no! I'm just now realizing that I failed to give any votes to Passing, despite Ruth Negga giving one of the best performances of the year. So sloppy! Here's hoping the other Skandie voters bailed me out.

Shocking, indeed! Don't worry bud, I'm 99.99% sure Ruth is gonna be okay. (I did my bit, anyway.)
