Everyone familiar with The Best Years of Our Lives is now wincing. Anyway, I spaced out yesterday and forgot to note that Wyler's Oscar-winning post-war classic handily defeated French Connection II in this week's poll, thereby making brand-new patron Antonio Gray possibly the first person since the very first week to win on the first round of his first request. Well done, sir. This is a film that I loved when I saw it around oh I want to say 1990 or so but have never revisited (despite having owned the DVD for more than 20 years; one might reasonably ask why I own all of this physical media, but I ain't never givin' it up). It's available from Kanopy via at least some libraries at the moment, plus rentable from Amazon and whatnot.

Do you have a rough estimate of your physical media collection? Or, the better question, would you be inclined to share it?

Is there a third movie besides BEST YEARS and ROLLING THUNDER about a war veteran who's an amputee?

There's a Letterboxd list of my DVD collection, which is actually up to date. https://letterboxd.com/gemko/list/every-goddamn-dvd-i-own/ Looks like I'm down to 216 of those. Blu-ray list is Criterion only and long out of date but my rough count of everything is 400-450. (Bear in mind that I got a lot of these free, thanks to being a critic.)
