One week after its ignominious loss to The President's Analyst, '80s cult fave Real Genius pulled out a five-point victory (52-47) over Bram Stoker's Dracula. Kyle Quirk hung onto his request for 35 weeks—not even close to the record, but still an exemplary act of patience, at last rewarded. I have no idea why I didn't see this film during its original theatrical release, since I was 17 and theoretically part of its target audience. (Films I did see that opened around the same time: Summer Rental, The Bride, My Science Project. My freakin' Science Project! Though I think that played at the multiplex I was then working at, so I probably saw it for free.)
