Another very close race this week, with Howard Hawks’ Ball of Fire (currently available on the Criterion Channel) eking out 51% vs D.A. Pennebaker’s suddenly resurgent Original Cast Album: Company (ditto). Looks like I last saw it 20 years ago, which is way too long given how much I cherish the combination of lexical minutiae and smokin’ Stanwyck. My thoughts on Company’s place in Sondheim’s oeuvre will have to wait for another time.
