For the second consecutive week, Enemy gets narrowly defeated by its older, more universally beloved rival—in this case, Leos Carax's third feature, which I've reluctantly concluded must now be called by its bland English-language title, The Lovers on the Bridge. Saw it twice in the '90s, not since; first viewing was at the recommendation of Harmony Korine, who I happened to bump into at Kim's Video in 1995, three years after we'd been NYU classmates. Still not a fan of his movies, but I am grateful for his saying "You know what's a great film that almost nobody's seen?" (That was true at the time; U.S. release finally happened in 1999.) Happy to finally take another look.
