(That joke would work a whole lot better had the losing film played at Cannes.)

Thought this week's poll would be a handy victory for Diner, but apparently there are a lot more fans of The Jerk than I realized. Again, this is a film that I don't technically count myself as having previously seen, because I don't recall ever watching it from beginning to end as a kid except as edited for TV and interrupted by commercials. But I nonetheless know it reasonably well, and anticipate a mixed response, based on my admittedly dim memory from the '80s. I was more of a Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and The Man With Two Brains guy. But we shall see.

My Halloween viewing will be Larry Fessenden's Depraved. Or maybe The Nightingale, if that shows up on Hulu right after midnight. But it's not clear to me whether that qualifies as a horror film. I certainly gather that it's upsetting.

Nightingale is not a horror film. It is pretty upsetting (primarily because of how long and dull it is).
