About 5 years ago I reached the max of my ability to draw, write, run the community, develop the universe, etc. and I realized that if I wanted to grow Flux Destiny, I needed to expand being a one-man shop and become a legitimate little studio.

It wasn't easy because I—like many artists—had control issues when it came to my work. When I put out the word that I was looking to hire artists to help me, I was able to connect with many talented artists and I commissioned them to do tests

As an artist myself I don't believe in free tests... that's insulting. I pay the artists I'm considering to do the test work.

During this process, I began to learn to let go of my control issues as I started seeing so many amazing styles. This process ultimately led me to hire SNAPS for the Beginner's Guide to Karmastry, and also allowed me to let go and trust Todd Haberkorn to voice the characters in the audiobook without much interference from me except a little creative direction.

I had a lot of growth during this time personally and professionally. And, since then I've enjoyed so much working with other artists and writers that I bring in who each contribute something to this universe.

These images are from my development archive, showing the wide variety of artists I was working with. As you can tell, Hugo and Marco are very different in the final product you know today, but here you can see early iterations.

I can't say it enough how much I appreciate the contributions of other creatives to the world of Flux Destiny. It's made the world and project so much richer.

This is great, thank you for sharing them. Like looking at a bunch of Alternate Universes(tm).

I honestly feel Hugo’s soul in the second page sketches. Something about the style of thin airy lines, uniform colors, and heavy dark shadows matches his character well. Like, he’s our little waffle and tries to act cool / carefree, but there’s sooo much depth to him as you get to know him and he’s really cautious and caring as a result. It’s sooo easy to view him as a little carefree brother, but forget he also is a cautious and caring big brother figure too! 🥰

Of all the styles, that style gravitated to me as well (it's the artist who I chose to do the audiobook art instead of me doing it)--- exactly for the reasons you explained above. thanks for those thoughtful comments
