January was wildly busy, but February should be calm... and that's good, because wait until you hear what's coming up!

January was a horrible year, huh? But for real, I am happy to finally hear what you had to say about the situation with Emile. I'm sure it hit you just like it hit us all: like a bag of bricks. I always felt like he was some kind of strange internet friend, one who I checked with daily. I'm happy to hear you guys are going to move on with the rebranded event, and that despite all the darkness, you will find the light. I am so excited for you to see Japan again! A tier vlogs, can't wait to see them. Have fun and make some memories, world travel is the best.

Question (for a Q&A video) How have the changes your Youtube case Manager had you make went? I know the biggest changes were one video a day and the Vod Channel. Stephen Plays and Vlog have grown a bit in the last few years but I was curious about your thoughts if you have any.

I'm very excited to return to Japan, especially because this is going to be such a weird trip — at almost every point of the trip there'll be multiple groups in multiple places, and (I'm hoping) everyone will be willing to film their perspectives. I won't even be bringing a proper camera, so all the footage should match pretty well too. It will probably be hell to put together, but I'm really looking forward to the editing process!

In the event I don't end up doing this in a Q&A video —  There are definitely some helpful tips that we're still thinking about, notably one video a day. Creating the VOD channel was also a fantastic idea, and releasing one short a day has brought an influx of new subscribers to StephenPlays. (Whether or not shorts subscribers are very valuable as video subscribers is a whole can of worms on its own, admittedly.) But we also know that the crux of what we do (episodic video game content) is not favorable by the algorithm. The partner manager let us know that, but it's also been pretty obvious just watching the numbers over the years. As such, we kind of operate under the idea of "vaguely keep the algorithm in mind" as we just go along our merry way. We don't want to limit what we do, and we have no plans to leave gaming videos behind, but we do give some real thought about how a series will impact the channel or what videos do better than others. Mostly my thoughts continue to be "thank goodness for Patreon" because YouTube is just always changing :X
