I think it looks way better without the mask. Looks sharper to me. Also less blocked in the shadows, but I that has more to do with the scanner settings.

That is some great quality! For a V700, I'd use a Lomography Digitaliza 135 mask but I've got myself a Plustek 8200i, which is way better in my opinion. You can only get better with a Nikon Coolscan 9000 or a drum scanner. What also matters (a lot) is the quality of the film and the developer. I love Tri-X and Rodinal the most.
