Here it is, the Nanozipper I've been talking about all this time.  This is a REAL concept that I came up with, based on the principle of large surface area contact increasing friction, and electrostatic repulsion.

Like the Mythbusters episode where they took two phone books and merged them together page by page, making them impossible to pull apart, I am extending this idea to three dimensions to create a fastener that requires no pull, merely an electrostatic charge.  When the system is in neutral state, the hairs are at rest with a small gap in between them, allowing motion (unlocked.)
When the system is in a charged state with opposite charges on each side, the hairs are attracted to each other, closing the gap and sticking together (locked.)
When the system is charged so that both sides have the same charge, the hairs repel and become easier to remove (open.)

Different designs must be considered, weather to have all of the hairs on either side connected together or weather to divide it into sections.  Also, exact dimensions (D, T, L, and X) need to be worked out experimentally.

The name is something of a misnomer since this will be on the micro scale and not the nano scale (about 1-10 micrometer hair thickness)  but "microzipper" sounds kind of gay.  Nanozipper sounds WAY better

This idea and design are copyright me and awaiting patent approval.

It sounds like a good idea ~ I hope it's put to practical use.
