Hey guys! We're nearing 2018 and I figured I'd talk a bit about my plans for the upcoming year.

First on the agenda: I really want to publish an artbook. A sweet hardcover smooth book filled to the brim with my art, tips and thoughts. I've been planning it for a while now - you who have been here since summer might recall I made a post about it then.

I’m expecting to launch a Kickstarter in May 2018. Or rather, I was. Now I’m thinking it has to be delayed until 2019. Or even later.

Why delayed?

I don’t have any time to create art for it! The thing with my World of Warcraft art (that 99% of my art is) is that I don’t own their IP. I’m worried that if I include any of it in my book, they’ll do a slam dunk Cease and Desist order on it. In which case, all the work, money and time I poured into the book would be wasted. I’ve been sending Blizz Legal emails, but getting a reply is easier said than done. So until they get back to me… Yeah.

Just create your own stuff!

Woah woah there bucko. Are you volunteering to pay for all my living expenses? Commissions funds my mortgage, electricity bill, my pc, water, food, heating, everything. Commissions + my current patreon donations I’m able to just about able pay for it all every month. I simply don’t have enough arms, money, energy or time to paint both commissions and personal work.

If anyone has any experience or good advice on this, I am all ears!

Blizzard legal is super slow. I got Etsy jewelry listings dinged because I said Overwatch or World of Warcraft inspired. Nothing from the games or logos used, but the use of their names in my listings were enough. Took WEEKS to get a reply from Blizzard. Wish you luck!

On online shops like that its an automated process though. So I would probably not get a cease and desist until they finally get to my email and Im sitting with all the books in my hands, all expenses waiting to be paid and people waiting for their product x) thatd be the worst case scenario at least.

If it’s not your IP, I would definitely recommend against it.
