(Ahh the joys of being a Patron. You get to see awesome videos way in advance <3
This animatic is set to premiere publicly on May 1st. But I thought my Patrons could get to enjoy a bit earlier ^-^)

I. DID. IT.

What started out as a simple leisure project, ended up into probably the biggest thing I've created in years.

I've had this animatic plotted out in my head for about a year, you know when you hear a song and imagine your characters playing out the lyrics? That's exactly what happened here, haha! Here we have Bibi as "Varian", and Mosi, as "Cassandra".

(Yes, the genders of the characters were swapped to better fit the roles and lyrics of the song :) Bibi is actually female, while Mosi is male. This animatic is NOT CANON, I just did it for fun! Mosi would never be this mean to Bibi after she helped him through his worst days.)

Regarding the animatic itself, this was so. much. work.

I began animating this in Photoshop on a Surface Pro tablet, and let me tell you, it became really challenging, really fast. I ended up with a 780MB file, containing over 800 layers, drawn in a little under five months. At the start, you can see me messing around with the program, since I had never animated in Photoshop before, and the sequences are a bit rougher than those at the end. Toward the end, the tablet lagged and overheated, and PS dropped tons of frames whenever I hit play, and this is only just a rough animatic xD I cannot fathom what a fully fledged animation would do to it xD

Speaking of, seeing this as a full animation would be absolutely bonkers. I have a background in comics and storyboarding, so that is mostly what I focused on for this video, and I have never properly animated before. But if enough people are interested, I may turn this into a MAP (multi animator project) on Youtube! What do you think? Would anyone like to join it? :)

Please let me know your thoughts in the comments, along with your opinion of how this animatic came out!  Is it good? bad? Too on the nose? Too chaotic? What was your favorite part? Your least favorite? What would you change about it? After working on it for so long, I want to know EVERYTHING xD

I truly hope you enjoy this! And if you do... there's more where this came from. 👀

I've had this animatic plotted out in my head for about a year, you know when you hear a song and imagine your characters playing out the lyrics? That's exactly what happened here, haha! These are the characters from my own comic, "Africa": Bibi the caracal ("Varian"), and Mosi, the leopard ("Cassandra"). CONTEXT: During the story, Mosi is separated from his mother, Africa, and is attacked and severely injured by a lion. Miraculously, he manages to survive, but upon reuniting with his mother, he finds out that she has adopted a serval kitten, named Mondo. Believing that she has forsaken him and left him for dead, Mosi is overcome by bitterness and resentment toward her and her "new son". Bibi the caracal, who had previously found Mosi injured and nursed him back to health, and who has a few skeletons in her closet as well, tries to reason with him, to steer him on the right path again... *Quick note: in the comic, Bibi the caracal is actually female, while Mosi the leopard is male. Their genders were swapped to better fit the roles and lyrics of the song :) Need even more context, or want to see how the story ends? Go read the comic! :D Seriously, please do! The entire comic is available online for free, on DeviantART and on Webtoon, links at the top of the description! Oh the angles?? The transitions???? The SYMBOLISM????? PLEASE turn this into a MAP, it's so well scripted!!

Nala15

This NEEDS to be a MAP. It's a law somewhere, I'm sure of it! Seriously, your storyboarding is absolutely beautiful and the transitions and movements are all perfectly timed! Even with the little glitches here and there (totally forgivable and not distracting enough to be an issue). Also, I watched this first with the sound off so I could take in the movement and all the sketches. It was a lovely experience with JUST visuals, btw. I got a REALLY good jist as to what what happening. With the sound, it was super clear. :) This is a wonderful work of art, Arven! Thank you for sharing it with us and for sticking with it until it was finished! :D (I'll leave this comment on YT too.)

Joey the Chubby Fox

I found an impressive story scripting and test animations in this video. Keep up the awesome work! ;)

Katie

Incredible work!! Absolutely love the bird symbolism with Mosi.

Stephanie Titarenko

Oh WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! This was AMAZING! Just pure win from start to finish. I've been watching it over and over again because the visuals are THAT GOOD, and flow so well with the music! Thank you very much for sharing this! It's easily one of my favorite animations. :)

Stephanie Titarenko

Also, my favorite part was definitely when Mosi/Cassandra starts their part. You can really feel the emotion.

shiloh!

this is amazing! i have always adored how you convey emotion in your characters, and now its in motion! the flashbacks stood out to me the most, I have no criticisms and would love to see it animated fully one day!

EffraSorbus

That was *incredible* 🤩 Absolutely stunning! (And yes MAP of it would be so cool and I would absolutely be interested in joining 👀)
