Hello, and welcome to this month's walkthrough video! Featuring the character Oki from Okami, this month we're talking about layer masks!

Contrarily to other walkthrough videos, for this month I wanted to try a narrated version, to see whether you guys liked it more than the written one!

Feel free to let me know which version I should continue doing, and please excuse my English XD

If you like this version more, feel free to make suggestions as to how to improve it! This is my first time doing this specific type of content and I'm sure there's a lot I can do better :)

This type of walkthrough video is usually Patreon-exclusive, but I wanted to make this specific one public for this reason. All future walkthroughs will be accessible to Patrons only, be sure to check out the Servalion Society ($10 tier) for more!

Moreover, on the same tier, you can find the PSD file for this painting! https://www.patreon.com/posts/37222422

Enjoy!

Narrated Walkthrough - Using Layer Masks - Painting Oki from Okami

Hello, and welcome to a new format of my Patreon walkthrough videos! This is something I've been wanting to try for a while now, and finally got the chance to. In this video, I explain how to use Layer Masks in Photoshop to create light and shadow for your paintings. I hope you find this informative! (also sorry for any random phone going off. This is my first attempt recording after a long time, I made the mistake of leaving it too close to the mic ^^; ) Walkthrough videos like this are usually exclusive to Patreon, but for this month, I wanted to make this test public to find out if this is something you'd be interested in seeing, rather than the written version of the walkthrough. Let me know! More of this content is available on my Patreon! Your support means a lot :) https://www.patreon.com/arven?ty=h This was requested by Myth on Twitter! Thank you for supporting me! :) Finished piece: https://www.patreon.com/posts/37222467

I personaly really enjoyed the narrated video! it makes it easier to multi task. When I watch art walkthough or art videos, I like following the voice and testing on the go some of the advices ;) it's harder to do when you need to pause the video to read. Let me know which option you will keep in the end ! it would make the walkthrough more interesting for me to pledge more ^^

2023-06-25 11:59:04 Thank you so so much Aiden, I'm happy you enjoyed it and find it easier to work with! :D And thank you lots for your interest in supporting this format! <3 I think I'll create a poll to see if this version is preferred over the written one, and if it is, I'll be happy to continue doing this type of video instead of the old one ^_^

Finally got around to watching the video. Work has been crazy :/ I normally work traditionally myself since I really hate the offset I have in my monitor vs. my drawing screen but I do know enough Photoshop to know what's happening. I'm actually really interested in the layer mask thing you're showing here since I absolutely hate fiddling around with layer modes and painting with them. They feel so unnatural and you can go so so wrong with the color picking. This masking method honestly "feels" more like you would do with colored pencil. As for the video itself, I do enjoy listening to someone talk. I have a habit of listening to videos like this in the background while I paint myself. Your speech is very clear. We Europeans tend to have rather distinct accents but I can't hear any in your speech :) Very relaxing to listen to. However I might tone down the music just a wee bit. Seeing as I, myself, have played the game and the OST has special meaning to me, I found myself drifting to the memories of the gamer rather than listening to your voice :> So maybe a wee bit quieter music. I hope to see more videos like this in the future <3 *goes to work on the Draw This In Your Style challenge cos' it's taking forever to finish*
