Lineage:

The news that B'Elanna and Paris are expecting a child brings back painful memories for B'Elanna, who takes drastic action to alter the genetic make-up of her child.

Garrett - could you use B'Elanna's line "I'm tired of talking, ok?" as a line to try to imitate her?

Elisabeth Westner

But I love Roxann's voice so I love that she's the only VOY cast member you can't imitate. So maybe keep it that way. :)

Eleanor Berton

Yay! You haven’t had a guest in a while and I’m so excited you got Roxann on! This is the perfect episode for her too. Such a joy listening to you three talk 💕

Marian Bieniek

My personal opinion is that this episode is not only the best episode of Voyager, but the best episode in all of Star Trek! Loved listening to Roxann's take on the episode!

Theresa Volz

Great episode! Everyone was awesome

Elisabeth Westner

Also, thank you for pointing out how one should never tell someone with anxiety to "relax" or not be so sensitive and never tell someone who's pregnant that their emotions are just because of hormones. Argh, those lines are so frustrating. I'm glad that nowadays many people are aware of how dismissive and nonproductive it is to say things like that. Would that everyone would have such awareness....

Jacob Howard

Tom and B’elanna both had daddy issues

Catherine Green

Absolutely! Though I assumed the line about being too sensitive was deliberately bad to prove what a hopeless dad B’Elanna’s father was. (I really hope I’m right!)

Elisabeth Westner

Yeah, I'm sure that's it. And B'Elanna was absolutely right that it totally wasn't the same thing. Teasing =/= systemic racism

Elisabeth Westner

Hey, I just discovered an interview with the actress who played young B'Elanna. Can't seem to find a link, but it's Trek Untold and the actress' name is Jessica Gaona. (And, spoiler: she did in fact meet Roxann but I don't blame Roxann for not remembering that, it was a long time ago!)

Catherine Green

Absolutely, and I hope that part made all the white viewers like me cringe as much as I did, because that point still needs to be driven home.

Elisabeth Westner

Yes, I'm glad there's a lot more awareness of it now but we still have a long way to go. Still, it's pretty awful how ignorant so many people were of systemic racism for so long (and I definitely was one of the ignorant; I try to pay more attention to it now but of course I still miss a lot since I'm white).

Stephanie

Thanks for finding the interview. You can watch it on youtube. The picture of Roxann and Jessica was cute. How funny if Jessica could get the role of adult Miral.

Elisabeth Westner

Oh neat, I didn't know there was a video too! I'll have to check it out because I'd love to see that photo.

Elisabeth Westner

Oooh, thank you! For the curious, the picture of Roxann and Jessica is between 24 and 25 min in.

Great to have Roxann on. Loved the podcast! ….sorry to disagree on the episode itself though…. Not one of my favs. Sort of too gritty for me, prefer charging around having adventures and, more fun?
