It’s a lovely episode. The ‘You Are My Sunshine’ duet is pitch perfect (pun intended). I always laugh out loud at the ‘fortress ovum’ gestures as well. Robert Picardo is just outstanding at comedy, drama, and pathos. Garrett: I will never see the Doc as ‘just a program.’ The show has established he is sentient. So in my mind he gets to have. Romantic interests. It was a good choice, IMO, for Seven to initiate a ‘study’ of romantic relationships. If she was not curious, then the whole thing would have been gross. But since it was her instinct to start exploring the topic, I think the Doctor was the perfectly safe mentor (which is why I’m glad he held his tongue). Perhaps later a romantic relationship would be okay but not when he is her ‘teacher/mentor.’ Kudos to whoever came up with the ‘chance encounter’ picture. It’s so very reminiscent of school pamphlet staged pictures. It matches the Doctor’s teaching style. I found it interesting that Robbie felt Tom was ‘innocent’ in the bet reveal. That was not a conversation to have unless you were SURE she already knew. I kind of thought it was cruel. So, one the one hand I’m grateful for an interpretation that makes Tom less cruel, OTOH, I the rationale seems soft. Ethan Phillips had some awesome one liners this episode and makes the comedy look effortless. Finally, any Pygmalion story carries the risk of a man’s view on how a woman should act. In this case, Seven needed to develop social skills before her rude behavior got her nose broke. So, I see the need for the lessons. And ultimately, she subverts the trope by ending the lessons. She decides she’s learned enough. And she HAS. She demonstrates consideration for other’s feelings and actual tact during the episode. While she has had moments of this before, I think she understands the ‘why’ much better. So, good character development episode for Seven and the Doctor. Funny and delightful.

Last time I watched this episode with my 5 year old he got up and started singing "you are my sunshine" with The Doctor and Seven.
