This is one of those times Voyager can take a shortcut for a week or go around for 15 months, which would require EXTREMELY unfortunate circumstances, like hitting the center of a pancake shaped space empire. Especially since their end point is 70+ years ahead so it is not like they have to return to the exact opposite point of the pancake to continue their journey.
