Ok I just started listening so the comment is a little late but I really can't believe that these guys missed the mark so badly on the discussion of the episode. A lot of Robert's review is based on that fact the he completely miss identified the genre of this episode as disaster story. I think this may have been a case of the answer being so obvious that he missed. The Genre is science fiction. I know that star trek spends a lot of time adding sci-fi elements to other genres so maybe he just forgot that sometimes star trek tells stories that are just straight up plain old science fiction. The fact that he couldn't identify the common story elements and tropes of disaster stories should have told him that he had landed on the wrong genre. The main plot of sci-fi tends to be something along the line of : 1. something inexplicable happens that creates a conflict. 2. the characters must use all their knowledge of science to try and find a solution. 3. Someone uses creative outside of the box thinking to solve the problem. 4. Even though the conflict is resolved the inexplicable thing is still inexplicable because our understanding of science is not great enough to answer all the questions we have. This is quintessential sci-fi and I'm sure that is why there are so many people in these comments that said they liked this episode.
