This week’s episode is The 37's. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

The 37s:
The Voyager lands on a planet where an old Earth aircraft contains people in cryogenic units, including Amelia Earhart.

Watching these episodes from the perspective of a fan and not a critic, I did not hate them like Robbie did.

Stray thoughts while watching the podcast: I agree that one of my favorite shots was the sunlight coming through the ready room and caught my eye the first time I watched the episode. Also agree that we never were given the indication that anyone would stay and the buildup to the cargo bay scene was uneven. I would love to see the footage of Janeway running; I had to go back to the episode to see the part they did show and I can see why they cut it where they did...lol. On to the fan reviews, you claim that is "Jean's" review first but instead it's once again Jamahl Epsicokhan's from Jammer's Reviews. I'm curious why you aren't giving credit to him and this is twice in a row you got their name wrong. Regardless, I agree with both Jamahl and Robbie here that Earhart was underutilized. Definitely agree with B.C.'s take that this is pulp sci-fi. Most of Robbie's criticisms of this episode can be hand-waved away by pointing out that it's supposed to be escapist and fun more than anything, like good classic sci-fi often was. I appreciate Robbie's opinion but I think it was a good Season 2 opener with some crowd-pleasing moments to draw in new viewers as any season premiere should. I also disagree with both of them that this could have been a good 2-part cliffhanger bridging seasons 1 and 2, as it didn't have the gravitas for such a distinction. Maybe if they cut down the overlong Chakotay-Janeway scene they could have used the 42 minutes more wisely. For the 3rd review, I totally agree that Amelia would have left in a heartbeat. She had nothing tying her down to that planet except for maybe her friendship with Fred, but any fear of the unknown seems to be out of character for her. Four reviews this time! Robert's didn't say much of anything, though. The episode was engaging to me from beginning to end even if it was a bit silly at times. Nice hat, Robbie! I've probably section-hiked about 15% of the Appalachian Trail, including the 100-mile wilderness in Maine. Maybe when my wife and I retire we'll do the whole thing in one shot. Thanks for another great episode, Garrett and Robbie!
