Patreon's New Fee System (Patreon)

If you haven't received it already, sometime today you should receive an email from Patreon explaining that the fees we've been charged for pledges since we launched are now being passed on to the supporters. They just informed us yesterday that they would be doing this for all Patreon creatros. I think their thought behind it is that since for every $5 pledge, we only end up seeing three dollars or so after Patreon fees and the IRS take their cut, this would give supporters the confidence that almost every dollar they were pledging went straight to the creators. Unfortunately, it puts people who can only afford to pledge $1, $2 and $5, for example, in the awkward position of now having to choose between upping their pledge another 37-50 cents per month (in this example), when they may not have that in their budget, or pulling their pledge.

We wish, as one of Patreon's top creators, we would have been consulted on this before they went ahead and made this decision, but we were blindsided by the announcement as well. Patreon is obviously our lifeblood at the moment, but, more importantly, so are our fans. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause and we hope you will be able to continue supporting us in our goals to create a network of nerdy entertainment. Your support thus far has opened doors for us we never thought possible and 2018 is shaping up to be an ENORMOUS year for us as we continue to grow, launch a second weekly podcast, get out to meet more fans in person and release new and exciting Patreon only bonus content. If you are able to stick with us, we promise to continue making it worth your while with more welcome distractions as the world burns to the ground around us.
