JHow

hmm, so this episode sort of brings up something i've only learned about comparatively recently myself, but makes a lot of sense, if you really think about it. as you might remember, their given ages in the show are: kazuma 16, megumin 14, darkness 18 and wiz 20. however, episodes like this one (and to a lesser degree episode two) remind me that, in the original draft of the story, they were all actually quiet a bit older. they were aged down for the official releases, but in the original web novels kazuma was 20, megumin 18, dakness 22 and wizz 26. this actually makes a lot more sense with their behaviours and certain plot points. to only name a few examples: -kazuma is repeatedly referred to as a NEET (someone who finished school but is Not in Employment, Education or Training), yet at 16 he'd be too young to even have graduated school yet. -megumin meanwhile already graduated school and travelled the land for quiet some time before meeting the group, plus she's old enough to live on her own, yet she's apparently only 14. sounds more like the past of an 18 year old. -wiz has that running gag about her worrying that she's too old and is past her prime. now, while she is an undead and doesn't physically age, this sounds much more like something a 26 year old would be worried about, rather than a 20 year old. -as for darkness, it was stated that alderp apparently had his eyes on her for several years before the trial. if she's 18, that would mean he'd have started hounding her when she was still a minor (not that i think he wouldn't be capable of that). if she was 22 however, that would mean that he'd probably started going after her once she was of age. it would also explain why her dad is on board with marrying her off now, even though he was the one standing in the way of most proposal attempts before. assuming the nobility of konosuba works even a little like real life nobility, the older darkness gets, the less likely they'll find a good partner for her, so an older darkness would be under much more social pressure to get married quickly, just as we see in this episode. now, is this a massive game changer? not really. it doesn't change anything too substantial. it does however help to explain some oddities that have been bothering me for some time now.

I wasn't 100% sure what a NEET was but I assumed it was similar to a 'shut-in'. Also I love how Aqua probably trumps everyone in age but is stuck in a perpetual mind-state of a teenager. I guess the main thing with ages would be it would be less creepy for Kazuma to be creepy toward an 18yr old than a 14yr old? But then again a 20yr old acting like that vs a 16yr old with teenager hormones? Asking the real questions here....

Make a lot of sense, but as Kuma said, they're on steroids hormone wise. Which kinda is a weird mix because on one hand you have these realistic points that work if they are older, but you overdo their reaction to sexual stuff for comedy's sake. Then again, we're people trying to discuss logic in anime...
