I'm watching the master avatar vod, and I'm on the serpent's pass episode. I've got to say there's a world of difference between what Jojo did with water bubbles and what avatar does with bending water around them. For one thing, Aang and Katara are bending all the water around them out of the way, creating a bubble that water can't enter, and they're obviously strong enough to counteract the water pressure because we see them doing it.

Well really good benders are a lot more powerful + versatile than some people realize, Azula for example somehow cuts through buildings and creates a shield sphere that deflects solid objects with fire in this very episode.

Azula actually uses blue fire(aka very hot fire) for most of the time and lightning just if she does circular movements for charging first, her firebending in the opening/as a little child is/was normal orange fire though.
