The top GaMetal songs of 2015. What are yours? (Patreon)

Lebon14 recently compiled a list of the rankings for all the 2015 GaMetal songs based on Youtube view counts (excluding SNES Medley, since it was just released a couple of days ago).

Rounding out the top 5 are Galacta Knight, PkMn Champion Medley, You Will Know Our Names, Megalovania, and Masked Dedede. I pretty much expected all of those, but I was suprised to see Galacta Knight break into the top 5.  If I had to wager a guess, I'd say being a 2 minute song it gets replayed more often, thus ending up with a higher view count, vs. the long songs like medleys not getting replayed as much due to their length. Masked became the most popular GaMetal song thanks to being featured in the Five Funky Nights at Freddy's 2 video which as some 49 million + views. Everyone has had Undertale fever recently which led to Megalovania's skyrocket up to the number 2 spot so quickly. YWKON was also buzzing in popularity because of Smash, and the Champion Medley just went over extremely well (it had some 1500 likes before receiving 1 dislike).


Coming in at the bottom 5 are Oil Ocean Zone, Grabbag (2015), Area 6, Monty on the Run, and in last place Bionic Commando. Most of these aren't popular songs originally, with the exception of Area 6. For some reason the Star Fox songs never fair well xD. But view count doesn't always mean a song was bad, Monty was at least top 10 in my opinion, and I actually really liked Bionic Commando! Haha.


A lot of people ask what my favorite songs I've done are, and with now over 100 songs to choose from, that's pretty difficult. But I think I can atleast give you my personal top GaMetal songs from 2015!


5. X vs. Zero -

Something about this one just has a 'single' feel to it. Like something that would get radio time, if game music covers were played on the radio. xD


4. Koopa's Road (2015) - Definitely heavier than the 2010 version but still a pretty laid back song. I find myself listening to this one often. xD

3. You Will Know Our Names (Remaster) - This one was kind of cheating because I didn't have much arranging to do! But I do think the addition of the solo section came out pretty neat. YWKON is just a badass song all around.


2. Fierce Battle - It might be personal bias, since I love FFVI and this is the Atma Weapon's battle theme, but this is another one I was very satisfied with.
1. Big Mute Blue City - I was really pleased with how this arrangement turned out, it turns out Big Blue and Mute City work really well together.

It still wasn't easy to pick a top 5 and the top songs for me fluctuate over time as songs grow on me or I get tired of them xD. But honestly there wasn't a song I released this year that I thought was flat out bad. Maybe a few needed some improvement, but all around it was a really good year.

1. Area 6 (after all, I picked it!) 2. That Person's Name Is (after all, it was one of the other ones I picked!) 3. Monty on the Run (absolutely blew me away having never heard the song before) 4. Natural Killer Cyborg / Unfounded Revenge (we were due for some Earthbound, and I thought the mashup came out really well!) 5. Staff Roll Super Mario 64 (For some reason I didn't expect this one to be that good, but it wound up being super obvious to just speed it up a little bit and shred all over it's face) - Honorable Mentions to GaMedley, NES Medley #3, Flying Battery Zone 2015, Koopa's Road 2015, and Masked Dedede.

Thanks Jonny for the highlight! As for my favs, in no particular order: 1. The Legend Of Mario 2015 I always loved the original and always liked the concept. So, in January 2015, as I was listening to this track, Jonny told me he was working on remaking this. Great timing. The remake turned out to be even better! 2. X Vs. Zero I'm into Japanese doujin CDs a lot, especially Touhou. And there's one circle I follow called "Sound Holic". Sound Holic always does Touhou arrangement CDs however, there was ONE exception. A Rockman (ie. Mega Man) arrangement which saw a commercial release (<a href="http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=VTCL-60322)." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=VTCL-60322).</a> The first track is called "X-Buster" and is... a vocal arrangement of X Vs. Zero. So, each damn time I listen to Jonny's version of it, I'm reminded of the vocal arrangement. xD 3. Gang-Plank Galleon I did not personally request that one but I I bet I was the major requester of that song. And, yeah, it was before the Patreon days. So it's a bit biased. xD But that track is just too damn good! 4. You Will Know Our Names I remember being extremely happy/excited when this was uploaded/announced. This song and Mechanical Rhythm makes the Xenoblade Chronicles soundtrack. Even if this track is a cover, it's still f*ing awesome. 5. Megalovania I did not play Undertale but I checked the original song out when I knew it was the next thing up back in October. I also knew that this game was HUGE at the time (and still is) and this could be an homerun. I was tell Jonny "Do songs from games that are very popular at the moment!". He mostly do our requests and his own choice but Megalovania proves damn well that taking popular video game tracks helps. Oh and, don't worry, I love this songs to f*ing death!!!! Honorable mentions: GaMedley, Pokemon Champion Medley, Big Mute Blue City, Dark Pit and Burning Town. All awesome still! The "Nopes" of 2015: Area 6, Battle With Magus, Haunted Graveyeard, Final Fantasy I-VI Battle Themes Medley and Fierce Battle. Sorry, not with these though. x.x

I still can't comment &lt;.&lt; So here is my list of top 5 from 2015 ^^ (No particular order) #: Flying Battery zone (Sonic &amp; Knuckles) #: Final boss (McDonalds Treasure land adventure) #: Mewtwo Battle (Pokemon Stadium) #: NES Medley #3 #: SNES Medley By all means there is no song in 2015 that is bad, all of them could deserve a place as top 5, It's all about whoever makes the list, But for me these 5 are the ones i'm putting on the top ^^

I have trouble with coming up with a full top 5, given that there were so many good songs released, but looking at my google music listen count, Dark Meta Knight holds a clear lead over the rest! I just love how the you mixed in the halberd parts with whats already an awesome song!

Might be biased because it was my suggestion, but I loved Monty on the Run. Sad that it didn't get the love it deserved. My second favorite would probably be Fierce Battle, followed by Splattack!
