Hey Patrons, I have an important update post for you today! Before we get into May Madness discussion, a couple of quick things to note:

For those of you that aren't part of the GaMetal Discord (come join us some time!), we recently held a Request Battle event that was themed around NES songs. That battle ended the other day and the winner was:

Kraid's Lair from Metroid! Kraid ending up winning a mini-tournament after initially placing #4 overall in a qualifying round, defeating Dr Wily's Theme (Mega Man 2) in the semi-finals and Solstice (Title Theme) in the finals.

Since I'm still in the process of finishing up other songs and this one should be relatively simple, I've gone ahead and slated it as the next song up.

It's about that time for another Patreon Request List listening stream, so let's go ahead and set the date and time for that: I'll host it this Friday, April 19th, starting around 4:00 PM US Eastern time.

Now, onto what a lot of you have been waiting for the update on:

May Madness 2024

GaMetal May Madness 2024 (I really should've called this GaMaytal...)  is approaching, but this time... we have a twist!

For those unfamiliar with the annual May Madness event: every May since 2015, I've gone back and re-covered some of my older remixes. As I continue to polish my skills in multiple avenues over time, I do this to spruce up some of my older arrangements that I feel could use a fresh coat of paint.

But after doing this for nearly 10 years, we've ran into a bit of a problem: I'm running out of older songs to remake! I've also been a bit reluctant to make GaMetal songs from 2015 onward eligible for this event, as I feel they are passable enough to either not condone a remake, or make a remaster instead (such as the bonus tracks from the mainline GaMetal albums and the VI: Reignited album).

So this year, we're CHANGING UP THE FORMULA.

While revamping old songs previously made up the core of May Madness tracks, there's always been another huge chunk of eligible songs that I've slowly been doing more and more of each year: songs that have only made an appearance in medleys

And from what I've been able to gather from the votes over the last few years, a lot of you have been more interested in these songs as well. So this year, the focus is entirely on making full versions of songs that have only had a medley iteration in the GaMetal library.

In this year's public voting form, we'll be looking at our 6 most recent console medleys: DS Medley, SNES Medley 2, GameCube Medley, PSX Medley, N64 Medley and GameBoy Advance Medley. You can pick up to three songs from each of these medleys that you'd most like to see a full version of.

But wait, there's more!!

You all are Patrons, so like always, you get a few extra privileges in the Patreon-exclusive voting form. For starters, you can pick up to 5 songs per medley rather than 3. There's also a second page, only in the Patron form, where you'll be able to vote for songs from any NES Medley (up to 3), and songs from any of the other medleys (GB, Genesis, SNES 1, series and other miscellaneous medleys [the ones with more than 5 songs, so I've not included medleys like Darkwing Duck Stage or SF64 Boss], also up to 3 picks). Patrons can also change their votes and view the current results of the Patreon form at any time.

Feel free to vote in both forms if you'd like (this one and public one which will be in the YouTube channel community posts later today), though do be aware that I don't have response editing or results summary enabled on public forms.

You can fill out the Patreon Medley Song Madness 2024 form here!

Unfortunately I won't be able to cover 20 songs in a month (could you imagine lol), so I'll be taking a hard look at the songs with the most requests from both forms (Patreon and Public) and form a roster of songs that I feel I can get a lot done with.

Voting will end Wednesday, April 24th to prepare for the upcoming event. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to leave a comment, message me, or hit me up on Discord and I'll get back to you asap.

Happy voting! 🙂

TL;DR: GaMetal Discord request battle winner Kraid's Lair up next, PRL Listening Stream April 19th @ 4:00 PM US Eastern, May Madness this year is focused on songs from medleys. Thank you for being the best!

Extra note: There's been a small amount of confusion about this so I'd like to reiterate: thats up to 5 votes per medley for the medleys listed on this first page, so that's up to 30 votes total!

Wait, so does this mean Super Mario 64's Main Theme/Bob-omb Battlefield is no longer eligible for a May Madness Remaster? Was it ever part of a Medley? I forget.

Next year: Do the few remaining pre-2015 songs missing, so the future May Madnesses can be only about the Medleys again.

Yea unfortunately that one was a full remix from 2010 (a pretty bad one ahaha)
