Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I have a smaller map for you, but a map I hope you will find versatile to use in your games. I was inspired by a small encounter written in the Rising the Stakes Curse of Strahd guide written by Lunch Break Heroes. In it, there is an encounter in the Village of Barovia where the villagers are getting sick, and the cause is some zombies that were thrown into one of the wells.

Though the write-up calls for a 4x4 area, I expanded the bottom of the well a bit to include a tiny cavern that has opened up underground. This allows you to run your players through waist-deep waters, give them more area to explore and fight, or even use this as a larger monster lair should you wish!

This map comes in seven different color moods; each version has a fog and no fog version. The color moods are:

  • Dark Fairytale
  • Ghostly
  • Gloom
  • Natural
  • Night
  • Verdant
  • Warm

I created the bottom half perspective of the upper well to try to create depth at the bottom. This area can also be good for tracking token movement as they descend the shaft. Keep in mind that the top rim of the well is not to the same scale as the bottom of the well (the bottom of the well being true to the size it was gridded off of).

I created a small hole in the eastern wall, allowing the water to flow out of it and pool into a larger cavern within the earthen walls. You can wall this portion out if you want to keep the fighting area cramped on your VTT or allow your players to have to nearly submerge themselves as they explore further. I love the idea of dark, brackish water with unknown elements lurking underneath.

The cavern is slightly elevated with soggy ground and mold-covered walls. The roots of the trees above have broken through this area and cling to the walls like writhing snakes. The last room I created with some elevation and cover for any combat encounters you might have planned here!

For my Champion Tier patrons, you will receive the following with this release:

  • 7 Color Moods
  • With & Without Fog
  • 4k & 8k Resolution
  • Jpg & Webp File Format
  • Grid & NoGrid
  • VTT Sizing Guide

With this map done, I will be continuing on with a few of my pending projects to finish up the Interactive Tome of Strahd maps and continue with my V2.0 Rework. Next up, I'll be working on the prologue map for the Interactive Tome of Strahd, which will include a castle courtyard to meet the young Strahd as your players discover his past. If you've not yet heard of this great supplement, you can check it out on the DMs Guild Here. I've made maps for just about everything to support this fantastic addon!

After this, I will start re-working my old Village of Barovia maps, starting with a section of town for a more generic encounter map (the east part of the town with the initial crossroads). I plan on hitting each key location as their map to increase their usability in other games you might be running. I find that Inns, shops, churches, graveyards, manors, etc. work great when you can use them as standalone maps for other adventures along with their intended purposes (not to mention it allows me to put more focus on the small details I like to add). I hope to have this map's exterior version done by the end of the month, with an interior version coming soon after.

I can't wait to bring new (un)life to the Village of Barovia, create more dark fantasy maps for your sessions, and continue mapping out every Saltmarsh location!

Thanks for your continued support!

Cheers,

DM Andy
