Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday! For today's map, I wanted to tackle a small building I was inspired to create, and I bring you my Snowy Rustic Church. My hope is this map can provide a small location for various encounters with a snowy backdrop, such as Icewind Dale or even in CoS in the town of Krezk.

I personally added a small church to Krezk in my own game as I felt the people there would want to continue their faith while avoiding the Abbey of St. Markovia and its strange and aloof occupant.

I was inspired to build this map after playing a bit of Diablo IV and entering the first town at the start of the game. I was immediately reminded of Krezk and loved the blend of snow and horror the artists were able to achieve within the setting. I thought it would make a great location to add to your own games, and thus, the Rustic Church was born!

This map has two core versions, Interior and exterior, and comes with five color moods, each with their own optional lights and weather effects.

Each version comes with and without lights for added VTT flexibility, and the color moods and weather are as follows:

  • Cool Day: A brighter color with a blueish tinge to create a cold and frigid feeling. Comes with snow variants.
  • Ghostly: The green hue creates a haunted and ghostly feel to this color mood. Comes with snow and fog variants.
  • Gloom: A darker color mood with deeper shadows creates a gloomy feel despite the brightly colored snow. Comes with snow and fog variants.
  • Night: This is the core night version of the map with enhanced lighting effects to bring out the contrast. Comes with snow and fog variants.
  • Sunny Day: The brightest version with a tinge of warmth to it. Great for clear and sunny days. Comes with snow variants.

For my Champion Tiers Patrons, you get the following with this map release:

  • 4k / 8k Resolution
  • 5 Color moods: Cool Day, Ghostly, Gloom, Night, & Sunny Day
  • Options with and without lights
  • Various weather effects for snow and fog
  • Jpg / Webp file types
  • Grid / No Grid
  •  VTT Sizing Guide

This week, my wife and I will be out of the country on a much-needed vacation! But fear not; I've worked on the next map release already, so there will not be a lull in releases for the month. The next map I plan to release will be a Tar Pit encounter map I call Los Muertos Tar Pits. I live next door to the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles and go there almost daily for a mid-day walking break. I personally added tar pits to the swamps of Berez to represent the corruption of Baba and her effects on the surrounding area, making the water black and viscous. I added some large bones to tease some of the huge and wild beasts I have roaming the swamp land.

Once I am back from vacation, I'll be working on re-creating the Counts Manor dungeon that Pyram King made to substitute the basement level of Death House. This has been a highly requested map, and I'm excited to get a chance to work on this finally!

After this, I will be continuing my work both on the CoS front and re-creating my older maps into V2.0 versions, creating more generic locations and finishing up the last few maps for the Interactive Tome of Strahd (The non-destroyed Burgomaster's Manor of Berez and the prologue map). Additionally, I'll be working on the next map within the Ghosts of Saltmarsh town, the Dwarven Mining HQ.

As always, a huge thank you for your continued support and belief in me to continue to create battlemaps to enhance your games!

Cheers,

DM Andy
