Hello everyone, and happy Release Monday! Today, I'm super excited to release part 2 of a really exciting project Pyram King, and I have been working on.

We have been creating our own dungeon for Curse of Strahd, which takes place within the massive pillar stone that Castle Ravenloft sits upon. This dungeon is the remains of an ancient temple built by the Dusk Elves that pre-dates when the valley was named "Barovia." This temple was built for the lost Night Fane, a new fane we have introduced into the lore.

This will be a three-part dungeon that will provide your players with an alternate means to get inside Castle Ravenloft by way of the Catacombs below. Allow your players to explore more lore surrounding the Fanes and the Dusk Elves and introduce a fun new dungeon for them to explore (and survive!).

You can find Part 1 of my map here. You can also find Pyram's video review on this first part of the dungeon here

Now that the map is done, Pyram will work his magic and post the next video in this 3-part dungeon. Stay tuned for that!

Inspiration

For this dungeon, I wanted it to feel different from anything the players have seen in Barovia. However, I did not want it to feel "typically Elven," if that makes sense. Starting off with the massive amounts of stairs the players must traverse, I wanted to capture the feeling of climbing high into the pillar stone. Just switch back trails of endless, steep stairs that continue to ascend into the rock. The section of missing stairs falling into an endless darkness was put there to give the sense of depth below. Even though they are within the carved rock, I want to remind the players they are still high above the ground below as they make their way through to the temple proper.

The architecture of the temple I wanted to feel slightly alien with a mix of Elven but also a hint of something sinister (given the Fane's true nature). When your players enter the central pillar, they will find a platform with odd runic writing scrawled across the ground with a central hole bored deep into the ground. Surrounded by another endless chasm, the sense of fear of falling into the depths below should be the core tone of this room.

From the central chamber, there is a shrine to the Night Fane to the north and two areas of rooms to the left and right. Starting with the room to the upper left, players will find a vine-covered massive Armillary used to calculate various astral movements. In the next room, the smell of moldy parchment fills the room in this once library. Followed by a preparation room covered in spider webs connected to the chamber below. On the right side of the rooms, starting at the top right, the remains of ancient crystals and alchemic supplies, now ruined, hint at rituals of old. The next room has a large, dead tree growing from the center in this now-ruined meditation room. And finally, the last room used to be a fountain/bathing room but is now flooded by a natural spring from the endless rain above. Who knows what lurks in these brackish waters?

Color Moods / Variants

I've created 8 different color moods to help you set the perfect scene. Each color mood comes with and without the magic ritual light variants. The magic light will be used as a ritual and will be outlined in the adventure write-up once Pyram is done. But let's just say the central chamber will turn into a magically empowered elevator to take your party to the next level!

For the night variant, I also added variants with and without torch light. Even though the ruins are supposed to be unlit, this might prove useful for those using this for another purpose in your own campaigns.

Map Details

For my Champion Tier Patrons, you get the following with this map release:

  • 4k & 8k Resolution
  • Grid & NoGrid
  • 8 Color Moods, each with and without magic lights
  • Jpg & Webp format
  • VTT Sizing Guide

Wow, this month has been a wild month of highly detailed map releases. Between the clock tower, Eliander's House, and the Temple, those were three pretty hefty maps that, looking back, I have no idea how I even got them all completed within the month!

Next up, I'll be working on a generic Dark Woods encounter map for all your spooky woods/road encounters. These generic maps are really important for DMs to have at their disposal, and I realized I have not created one in a bit. Ideally, I want to try and work out a way to create a variant with and without roads so you can use it either as a full forest map or a dark forest road map for more versatility.

That next map will wrap up July and lead us right into August! For next month, I'll be trying to find a way to capture the next Saltmarsh map, which is the Mining Company HQ. Since this is located inside of a mansion with a vault below, it might be a hefty map, so I will need to figure out the best approach here. For the CoS space, I'm planning on the third and final Temple of the Lost Fane map, and I'd love to knock out another V2.0 with Death House! So stay tuned for another month of battlemaps.

As always, thank you ALL for your continued support!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Hooray! So excited to see this in full! When do you anticipate the map for level 3?

DM_Andy

So happy you like it! I know Pyram will be working on his video to go with this map soon, and I plan to get part 3 done in Aug. I also can't wait to get this entire dungeon all together with Pyram's written content. We are both very excited :)
