Hey everyone, and happy release Day! I usually release on Monday, but today's map was SO massive in the number of variants and the work put into it; I just needed as much time as possible to get it all ready.

Today's release is enormous, with 126 map options featuring a five-level Clock Tower & the Lair below it. In addition to both of those maps, for being a patron of mine, you also get a copy of "A Clockwork Murder" adventure PDF as written by Lunch Break Heroes

Last week I released the Audience Hall & Parchment Map of Lothburgh, and these two maps will complete all the maps you will need to run this adventure. Of course, the clock tower maps make a perfect centerpiece to any gothic city!

Map Variants

This release comes with two core maps:

  • The Clock Tower [20x20]
  • The Lair Below the Clock Tower [30x30

The Clock Tower map comes with five different levels, including:

  • 1st Floor
  • 2nd Floor
  • Stairwell
  • Clock Room
  • Roof

In addition to the five levels, the Clock Tower maps come in three color moods: Day, Night, and Gloom.

Of those three color variants, I've included tons of options, as detailed below:

  • Lights & No Lights
  • Fog
  • Rain
  • Blur & No Blur on the higher levels

I hope this will not be too confusing for you when trying to find the correct files for your needs, but of course, we have a growing community here, and each DM has its own preferences regarding how they utilize map files. I like to make sure my maps are as flexible as possible, allowing DMs to set their own weather effects and lighting or pick the image that best fits the mood they are trying to cultivate.

Map Overview

The game Thief and the iconic clocktower heavily inspired me while working on this map. I wanted this to feel like the centerpiece it should be within a gothic and grim city. The first floor features the workshop of the gnome clock tower keeper, as detailed in the adventure PDF and here is where your players can find the secret entrance to the lair below. The second floor features storage, a writing desk, and a small bed tucked within a maze of wooden beams that support a massive wooden staircase that ascends the tower above.

Rising 200 feet into the gloomy sky, your players will ascend flight after flight of wooden staircase before finally reaching the clock room at the top. With four facing clocks facing the city below, here are the inner optations of the clocktower where ravens can be heard from the rafters above.

Finally, the roof level proves a wonderful opportunity to have a small area for an intense encounter as the fierce wind, thick fog, or pounding rain hinders your heroes. This is a perfect map for a chase sequence where your target attempts to flee to the roof of the clock tower, maybe waiting for their flying mount to scope them off the top before your players catch up!

The lair is detailed as described in the adventure PDF with four core rooms, including the "engine" room for the clock tower and the lair of the vampire who lives beneath the hissing steam pipes and grinding gears.

As I leave the City of Lothburgh behind, having mapped out the Clock Tower & Audience Hall, I will be pivoting back to the coast of Saltmarsh and working on our next town location, Eliander's House, which will feature a manor overlooking the cliffs by the sea.

Once I've had my fill of the sea air, I'll be heading back into the mists to work on part II of the Temple of the Lost Fane. If you have not yet seen it, Pyram King posted up an awesome video for Part I, which you can find here.  He did such a wonderful job with it, and I'm always so impressed with the brilliant ideas that Pyram comes up with. For me, this will become a staple location in Barovia as it really ties deeply into the lore and provides a fun and unique dungeon crawl that CoS does not have many of outside of the castle.

Lastly, as a reminder, July is a five-Monday month, so I'll be skipping next week's release while I get some much-needed time to catch up and work on the next release. I am planning releases on the 17th, 24th, and 31st.

Thanks for your continued support!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Glad you liked it! It was super fun to do something a tad more modern and I love a good dark Victorian London-esque setting. With RPGs like Blades in the Dark, this map would also be useful for those settings. When I run my Grim Hollow campaign I plan on making Ostoya more like Victorian London because the vibe is just so fitting.

You nailed it, once again ! My favourite room is probably the top level. That lighting is perfect for a final encounter at the top of the world !

Thanks Eledryll! I was excited about working on a clock tower as I find them awesome. Even watched a few vids on how they work so I can do the inner workings properly(ish). Glad you like it!
