Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today's releases will be the first few maps supporting the new Lunch Break Heroes adventure "A Clockwork Murder," which will be released for you all later this month.

This adventure takes place in the City of Lothburgh, which is the same city where the adventure "In the Name of Science" takes place, and I've even included both locations from that adventure on the parchment map I created for this release.

Today I am releasing both the parchment map of Lothburgh along with the first map, which is the Audience Hall of Chancellor Magnus. The next map will be a clockwork tower along with a small lair underneath it which I hope to get out later in the week or early next week.

Audience Hall

I decided to keep the Audience Hall a single room instead of a larger map since it takes place in the main government building of Lothburgh, which would have been too large for a "battlemap" style map. I also wanted this location to really stand out, and I wanted to add as much depth and detail while keeping the "grand" feeling of this old building. Taking inspiration from many real-world government buildings of old, I wanted this room to feel ornate and lavish without being overly busy. The large, echoing hall and the long walk to the Chancellor's chair were designed to add a sense of authority and intimidation as you approach.

The history of Lothburgh (which will be explained more in the adventure) involves a large-scale war between the humans that have settled there and the vampires who attempted to wrest control of this old city. The portraits depicted on either side of the wall were designed to depict the battles that took place and memorialize the heroes that fought in them.

Of course, to help you set the perfect mood and cater to your preferred VTT experience, I created six variants of the Audience Hall, each with various options, such as sunrays and lights.

These variants include:

  • Day
  • Night
  • Gloom
  • Ghostly
  • Dark Academy
  • Warm

Parchment Map of Lothburgh

For this parchment map, I wanted to create the look and style of an old London Map, and I used a few real-world maps for inspiration. The core variant includes 3d depictions of key locations while the map remains in 2d. I hand-drew each line and city block you see on the map, and I really enjoyed putting together the layout of a very dense city.  You'll also find both the Foxhaven University along with the Greyvaults Cemetery from the previous adventure mentioned above. This is a perfect large-scale city to use in your own Domains of Dread campaigns as well and has a very gothic/victorian feel to it.

I created three core versions of the parchment map:

  • With all location icons and names
  • With just location icons and no names
  • With no location icons and no names

Additionally, I have created tokens for each of the core locations from the adventure, both with & without borders, so you can use them with your preferred VTT and uncover them as your players get there.

Release Details

This release comes with the following:

  • Audience Hall Map with 6 color moods and additional variants
  • Parchment Map with 3 variants
  • Map Tokens with & without borders
  • Jpg & Webp files
  • 4k & 8k Resolution
  • VTT Sizing Guide

The next map on my list will be to finish up this adventure. The other major location for players to explore will be a clock tower, and so far, I've started on the ground floor. I am planning on adding a 2nd floor, a few flights of stairs, and the main clock tower above. Additionally, there will be a small lair under the clock tower. This is a great map to add a bit of Victorian spice to your Dark Fantasy games, especially if you have an Artificer in your party! In addition to the clocktower, I will also be including the adventure PDF as well.

After this, I will be planning out the month of July, which I hope to include the next location from Saltmarsh and the next level to the dungeon Pyram King and I are working on, The Temple of the Lost Fane, for Curse of Strahd. I would also like to get another V2.0 map done for my older maps, and I'll also be posting up color mood and lighting updates to some of my older work.

I can't say it enough, but thank you again for your continued belief and support in me!

Cheers,

DM Andy
