Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday!

Today I'm super excited to bring you a re-work of an older map I did over a year ago; The Amber Temple (Exterior & 1st Floor).

This is part of my V2.0 project, where I will be re-doing my older maps with my newer map standards. This means, much like Ravenloft, that it does take me significantly more time to produce each level, so this release will be split into two parts. This part is the exterior and 1st floor, and next week will be the 2nd floor which I'm currently still working on. I think you'll agree the change from my original Amber Temple map will be worth the wait, though!

For the first time with the Amber Temple, I have created an exterior version as well as the 1st floor for this release. I always thought the idea of the players seeing this temple built into the side of the mountain with the Amber statues contrasting against the white snow was such a cool visual. But every time I've run the Amber Temple in my own game, I was disappointed that all the players saw was snow and the black "wall" from the dynamic lighting. This allows you to switch out scenes as your players approach the temple or even run a combat encounter here! With a 60x70 grid, you'll have plenty of room outside for that pesky Roc to continue to harass your players.

I did not create as many mood variants as I normally would with this map because I did not want to take away from the amber feel of the temple. For this map, I've created the following moods:

Day: This is my "standard" version of the Temple as I intended the color scheme to be. It focuses on three key aspects; A feeling of coldness from the front and the amber glow from the walls all while remaining dark and foreboding.

Bright: This is a brighter, more vibrant version of the temple. Great if you want to control your own level of darkness.

Gloom: I've toned down the reds and amber and focused more on the greyscale of the map to give a more washed-out and gloomy feel.

Night: The glow of the moonlight reflects off the snow and creates a dark and cold feeling on the inside.

In addition to the above-mentioned color moods, each version comes with snow on the outside.

For my Champion Tier patrons, you get the following in this map release:

  • Grid / Non-Gridded versions
  • 4k / 8k Resolution
  • 4 Color Moods
  • Exterior / Interior
  • Snow versions for the outside only
  • Webp files in 4k / 8k
  • VTT Sizing guide

My next main focus will be to finish up the temple and release the 2nd-floor level by next week. After this, I will be working on some more Dark Fantasy maps for the next LBH adventure (More details to come).

Once this is done, I will be working on the next Saltmarsh release; The Barracks & Jail. I'll have a clearer timeline as I get closer to these releases, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy my re-work of the Amber Temple!

Cheers,

DM Andy

This is so wonderful! Will be perfect for the Tome of Strahd content I'm running, especially since we have a paladin whose order helped defend this place. :-)

Andy, this is all amazing, but may I be greedy enough to request a LBH compliant variant? One where the temple itself is underground and the exterior is the monastery?

DM_Andy

I know LBH did some pretty large re-works on the format of the temple. Being that he placed the temple itself in an underground cavern and has the whole front entrance separate from the temple. It would be a big change for sure but I'm open to it since I'll be doing all of the third party content as well for other creators, though I don't know yet when I'll be able to slate in a change like that but it's on the "to do" list for sure! :)
