All "Interactive Tome" maps are inspired by the well-written work of The Aciduous Adventurer, and the original adventure can be found on the DMs Guild here.

Hey everyone, and happy Release Monday! Today I am excited to bring you part 1 of the next installment of the Interactive Tome maps (See the link at the top of the page for the adventure write-up). From the CoS module, this chapter takes place in the town of Berez before Strahd's wraith destroyed it. Since this town is so large, I will do three full map releases to cover this sprawling area.

For those not using the Interactive Tome supplement, this map will work perfectly for any riverside village and contains several different buildings for your encounters. You will find a two-story inn, a general store, a mill, and four cottages. This map has many variants (as detailed below) and complete interior and exterior versions for each location.

For this release, I have created a few moods in addition to the usual rain and night maps I've done. The different variants for this map are:

Clean: No fog

Bright: Lighter tone highlights the map's color and makes things look dryer and more vibrant.

Gloom: Bring out the cold, dreary atmosphere of dark fantasy realms such as Barovia. This map is dark and brooding!

Day: Standard color array with fog.

Night: Heavier on the fog to give that creepy nighttime vibe. Also, this map is dynamic in the market stalls are gone to give the impression the townsfolk pack up and return home at night, locking their doors to whatever dangers lurk outside.

Rain: Stormy weather has drenched this town. Higher greyscale gives it that dreary and colorless feel. You'll also find puddles and rain splashes about.

All variants listed above have three different levels (1st floor, 2nd floor, and roof). Notes, only the inn has a 2nd floor.

For my Champion Tier patrons, you get the following with this map release:

  • Grid / Gridless
  • 5 Variant Moods: Clean, Day, Night, Gloom, Rain, and Bright
  • 4k & 8k Resolution
  • Webp files in 4k & 8k, along with a VTT sizing guide
  • 3 levels (1st floor, 2nd floor, and roof)

The intended grid size is: 60x40

My content calendar is brimming with new releases! For the next few maps, you can look forward to the next installment in this series; The Church & Graveyard. I am working on a massive church/graveyard map that will be fantastic in any gothic horror setting, along with being able to be used for the rebuilt church/graveyard in Berez. I will also work on the final (official) floor of Castle Ravenloft; The Dungeon & Catacomb! And, since love is in the air in Feb, I will be working on a particular Vday map that will still have that gothic horror feel.

I hope you enjoy this release, and I'll catch up with you on Thursday for my next sneak peek.

Cheers,

DM Andy

Ah, thank you! I'm planning on running this as a 'restored Berez' with the town covered by Baba Lysaga's Programmed Illusion + Mirage Arcane to 'spruce it up' and help confuse the party.

I ran something similar in my game as well and it was so fun! I had the town worship the "Queen Mother" who was a more regal-looking version of Baba. I even had them perform a play in which she had them act out "scenes" of a very distorted version of Strahd's past. It was a lot of fun :)

That sounds cool as heck. I plan to expand a little on the Barovian Witches there. They've already met an initiate who they're sympathetic to, and when they arrive, it's going to be her full initiation ceremony into the sisterhood. I've devised a ceremony involving the Cauldron of Rebirth where the initiate willingly allows their throat to be slit into the cauldron and then are covered in salt to be 'reborn' a fully fledged witch. Thanks to the rules of gaining madness upon returning from the dead in Barovia, this helps explain why every Barovian Witch in the land is a little bit extra crazy.
