Hey everyone, and happy release Monday! Today I'm excited to bring you the first release of 2023 as I continue mapping out Castle Ravenloft; The Larders of Ill Omen

Now that we are done ascending the castle, time for us to delve into the cold, damp underground and investigate Cyrus' lair as we make our way to the dungeon and catacombs below!

I've created two core versions for this release with a very subtle difference. I have removed the dragon skull shadow in the ossuary room for each variant, as I know a lot of DMs place the skull of Argynvost elsewhere.

In addition to creating a variant without the dragon skull, I have made several variants based on color schemes.

Regular Version: Standard lighting with effects such as fog and candlelight.

Dark Version: This darkens the map, but I kept it bright enough to play on. It creates a spookier, darker ambiance with more dramatic shadows.

Warm Version: This brings out the sandstone walls and flooring and creates an almost "bloodline" atmosphere.

Clean Version: I have removed the fog in the main hallway and all the candle lights around, so you can place your lighting.

You'll notice I used less blueish-grey tones and added more tans and browns this time. I wanted the is to feel like underground larders using sandstone for the flooring and walls and liked the look and feel to be similar to the castle above but give your players a slight change of atmosphere. From the bubbling cauldron in the kitchen (of which I've added tons more detail) to the glow of the morbid ossuary, your players will feel uneasy investigating the various rooms of this floor.

This map release contains the following variants:

  • Clean, Dark, Warm, and Regular versions
  • Grid / Gridless
  • 4k / 8k Resolution
  • Versions without the dragon skull shadow
  • Webp files in 4k / 8k with a VTT sizing guide

After this map, I have one more official floor to map out for the castle, which will be next in the Ravenloft series. I will also be working on an updated forest map for genetic use since my "misty forest" map is quite old. Additionally, I'll be working on chapter 12 of the Interactive Tome of Strahd. Given the size of Berez and the number of locations of this chapter, I might spread it out over multiple releases. I want to flush out a part of the town next to the river with the inn and trading good store, the church with the graveyard, and the burgomaster's mansion with a portion of the garden.

I'll keep you all updated on these future releases as I get closer to releasing them. Until then, I hope everyone has an excellent 2023 filled with epic games and even better friends!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Hi, could you maybe do a post with the links to all castle ravenloft maps? I'm afraid I may could have skipped a map, I'm not sure if I got all the "upper level maps"

Hello! Since there are so many maps per release, it would be quite a lot of .zip files attached to a single post. However, I would recommend checking out my map hub page which has the links to all of the Castle Ravenloft maps and should help you navigate Patreons (often) confusing UI. I hope this helps! Thank you!!! Your Larders map is incredible as well, and I love your heavy fog in the hallway. I appreciate your love on my map, though <3
