Hello to my amazing patrons! I have some important updates I need to share with you all today which will impact the way I’m allowed to distribute my maps.

As you may or may not know, I use a program called Inkarnate to make my maps. This is a wonderful tool which allows me to create the fantastical maps I’m able to bring to you all. The great thing about Inkarnate is their annual membership allows me to distribute maps through sites such as Patreon and I am eternally grateful for this allowance.

However, I have misinterpreted an area of their Terms and Conditions which prohibits the redistribution of their assets outside of maps created by content creators such as myself. This includes transparent .png files such as roofs. I thought the Terms prohibited me from redistributing the un-altered assets, but it turns out this applies to all transparent background files, including images which use a combination of assets that I have created.

I fully understand and respect this decision as means to protect their artist’s work. I respect and admire all the Inkarnate artists and want to make sure I am in full compliance with their Terms.

What this means for you all is, unfortunately, I will be taking down all my transparent files I’ve been adding to my map releases. This does include roof files I have been making for many of you for use in Foundry VTT. I will still continue to create building maps with roofs on them, but will no longer be allowed to distribute the roof as a separate .png file.

Going forward, I will be looking to source other artist’s content which includes distribution licenses that allows me to create roof files. So long as I purchase and have permission from the artist to redistribute, I am allowed to use them as custom assets within the Inkarnate platform and create a solution for the roof files. However, the look, mood, and feel of my maps is very important to me so I will be very selective over which assets I would look to purchase. It may take me some time to find the right art style that mixes well with the maps as quality is first for all my maps.

As some of you have come to find, I love to serve my Patreon community and will bend over backwards to see to your requests fulfilled to the best of my abilities. I apologize to anyone that is here specifically for the .png roof files and fully understand if you want to cancel your membership with me. My main goal is to make awesome maps and serve my patron community, but I must remain within compliance of the various Terms I operate under.

I promise to continue looking for a viable solution that is approved for distribution so I can meet all your needs, but until then, I hope you continue to enjoy the maps I have been creating!

Thank you all for your support, it really does mean the world to me!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Yes. They are between a rock and hard place and thus they have to place their supporters between them as well. The proverbial turds roll down hill. It makes it extremely tough for someone like myself who is new to all this to have a desire to continue learning the tricks of the trade and to support the tools and artists.

Unbelievable. Ask the Dungeon Madames. Odds are they made the content that you're using to make the (newer) roofs in the first place. If they can't throw together a tileable roof for you to use, I probably have a pile of free to use ones laying around somewhere. Something they make is nearly guaranteed to match. I could probably find something that would be a close match.
