Hello everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I am releasing the next map in my Winter's Grasp series: The Gothic Village!

The Winter's Grasp maps are my reimaging of my Dark Fantasy / Gothic maps, especially those that cover modules like Curse of Strahd into winter-wastelands of frigid cold snow and ice. I love winter horror, and this dreary village becomes even more desperate in the cold months.

Unfortunately, this map will not include a Death House variant like my original Gothic Village. I wanted to add it, but this map's complexity has pushed the limits of my processing platform.

To give you some insight, I clone the original map, retexture everything with snow and ice, and adjust each asset's color and brightness. I also add wintery elements like icicles and snow piles. Usually, it's not as demanding as creating a new map from scratch, but this particular map caused severe performance issues, including lag, crashes, and 3-4 hour export times. Since the map has four levels, each with and without lighting, and day/night versions, the export times add up significantly. Adding a Death House would require 20 more exports, taking an additional 40-60 hours, which I simply don't have the bandwidth for.

I hope this doesn't come across as complaining. I just wanted to explain why a Death House variant won't be available. However, you can still use the Winter's Grasp Death House map here.

This map will include all four levels of the Gothic Village, including the roof, 1st floor, 2nd floor, and 3rd floor levels of this sprawling settlement!

For my Champion Tier Patrons, you will receive the following:

  • 3 Color Moods: Gloom, Chilly Day, Night

  • Weather Versions including snow, fog, and sun rays

  • 4k & 8k image resolution

  • 4 Map Levels including Roof, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors

  • Grid & No Grid options

  • Jpg & Webp

  • No Lights Variants

  • VTT Sizing Guide

With the Vistani Camp and Winter's Grasp Gothic Village done this month for my Dark Fantasy maps, I will be switching gears next to our sunny coastal land of Saltmarsh to work on the Weekly Market map; The town's sprawling dock-side market selling all manner of fish, goods, and services! This is a meeting hub for the village and a great location to feature assassinations, chases, or even a place to meet new NPCs and discuss the goings on around town. A great compliment to any fantasy setting.

Lastly, as I wrap up the Village of Barovia and southern roads, I'll be (re)mapping my way toward the decrypted and looming Old Mill of Bonegrinder and at the end of this month I'll be featuring a hilly road map flanked by patches of brambled, thorny vines showing the hags corruption of nature as your party treks toward the next iconic landmark.

As always, thank you SO much for your continued support of my work and I hope that you have been enjoying all of the new custom assets I've been honored to feature in my maps to help further bring them to life.

Cheers,

DM Andy
