The problem with the deleted footage thing is it would be very easy to recover it, especially for the police.

A very clever episode, this one.

Brilliant reaction, Josh, and I just knew you'd love this one! It's a fantastic episode, super clever, and right up my street too, having a real interest in magic, illusions, misdirection, showmanship and the whole psychology of it all. I'm a big fan of Derren Brown, for example, have seen him live 6 times, and so I loved the direct reference to him here. The League of Gentlemen were guests on one of Derren's early shows so it makes me smile for that reason too! It's a very tight, skilfully written piece this one with a deliciously just ending. It really is satisfying to know that the grandson has not only inherited his grandfather's genius but has used it to get justice for his murder. Wonderful stuff! 🙏

A great episode. Regarding the last episode, I cannot believe nobody mentioned it, but the Mum killed that dude. With her car - that's why her ccar needed repairing and her brother-in-law offered to pay for the damage.

I alluded to it! I actually think a few of us mentioned it in the comments

John, I agree, this is a great episode. But loads of people talked about the loan shark/mum's car getting damaged in the comments to the video dude. Keep up lad 😄

This is the first Inside No. 9 episode I ever saw! I knew I wanted to see more. It's similar to Riddle of the Sphinx in a way, but I much prefer this episode, but I've always found Sphinx overrated, and I know I'm an outlier in that. But it's similar in that it's two people, with dangerous secrets that come out, and there is a secret murderous intent running throughout the episode. Plus no one is forced to cannibalise their daughter in this one, which is a positive for me!

Great episode and great reaction Josh, you didn't need to say too much, your reaction said it all anyway :) It's a shame he couldn't get revenge without murdering an innocent person though :D Maybe the girlfriend has an even more ingenious magician in her family who will get revenge on Gabriel for killing her in another 9 years time lol. Josh, a few of us mentioned after the last episode, it was the mum killed the guy with her car. Not the dad. It was implied in the scene in the kitchen with the brother where she mentions the damage to her car and he says he'll get it sorted for her for free etc. Really enjoyed that, thanks!

Yeah I agree this is one of the best episodes. The use of modern technology made sense. Never try to out-tech a millennial!

Reminds me straight away of The Prestige, a film that has grown in my mind since I first watched it. Excellent.

mrtheevilmage

fantastic episode I do agree with you this is probably the best episode of this season

Amazing, thank you so much for this! This episode gives me goosebumps every time but even moreso watching you react to it for the first time! I think this is only the third time I've watched this one and I still forget parts of it so it really retains the magic (lol) well. I remembered the general plot in its entirety but individual parts still had my jaw on the floor - I was too busy focusing on the fact I remembered that he put the blade in the wrong pocket to remember the significance of that move, brilliant! I absolutely can't wait for Stakeout - I'm not going to check when it is as I like the surprise of finding out which episode is next on the day, but I'm hoping it coincides with Halloween as it's an episode with a great spooky atmosphere. Also the music is phenomenal in these episodes, Christian Henson really developed a perfect score. Keep it up!

Awesome reaction - thanks! These guys must have an absolute blast writing this show together. Some are hit and miss but this one was simply brilliant. Can't believe I never gave this a try before, so thanks to everyone who voted for it!

ALW

Honestly some Derren Brown stuff would be great for one of the polls.

He didn't just steal the old magician's chair trick -- he also stole one of his phrases. He said: "You're clearly a passionate student of the magic arts" he says to the boy / grandchild -- and that was the exact same line the old magician said to the trick-thief at the beginning!

...although that might have been to gauge the kid's reaction, to see if he was connected to the old man.

Aww.....I've just realised that the next one is a banger too! Not often that you get 2 gooduns, back to back.
