This film is probably the biggest British romance comedy film of the last 20 years, often parodied, especially the card scene. Either this or Bridget Jones Diary. So its not like its a throw away romcom. worth a watch for that, so you can say youve seen it

Early 2000s was huge for romance films. I think Titanic started it with the romance but they turned into RomComs. Then you got: Bridget Jones Diary, Love Actually, Youve Got Mail, Notting Hill, What Women Want, As Good As It Gets ( the latter is excellent and should be watched) . RomComs really peaked then

(as he does in a lot of movies) - I'm going to book a flight to Milwaukee. lol - It would've been a very different ending if the security at the airport just gunned down the kid! - Josh, did you not notice that was Claudia Schiffer (Carol) who Liam Neeson bumped into after the kids play?! Josh, add the TV show "Rab C Nesbitt" to the poll list. (main character is played by Bill Nighy's manager in this)

Funny seeing this reflect the times with the PM/President story. Everyone hated Bush in the UK because they saw him as dragging us into a war we didn't want. People liked Blair at the time, but then he went along with the war and then became one of the most hated PMs ever, especially after the whole lie came out. I remember the country just wanting a PM that would tell Bush to shove the war up his arse..... but it never happened. So when Hugh Grant does it in the movie, it is a moment people loved over here. None of that matters now anyways, the country has been run into the ground by bad government after bad government.

I like how they didn't have Sarah with the guy in the end, I think that story is more about love and sacrifice for family. I do have two problems with the movie though and that's the Airport chase and the guy who is in love with his best mates wife. The Airport chase shouldn't have been there, he learnt the drums to try and woo her and was successful in that. I think that should have been enough, maybe a little thing where she says she's so impressed with him or something throw away. The whole Airport chase thing between two kids is very bizarre and in reality she wouldn't have given a crap and told him he's odd and they'd have been arrested. As for the the guy whose in love with his best friends wife.... it's a storyline with nothing to it. I think they should have had his mate being abusive to her, just so it could have gone somewhere. I just end up feeling sorry for his mate, and then to see them standing together at the end is weird. Especially as he said "enough for now", we're all meant to act like the card thing was sweet :S No.

100% accurate. I especially hate that it was portrayed in America to American people that Britain was backing thme up going to war. No. Our Prime Minister was, but nobody wanted it. We wanted to keep ourselves and our army out of it and there were massive protests. Tony Blair did indeed go from a much liked and very popular PM to one of the most hated ever because of that.

Agree regarding the kids' airport chase. It IS just bizarre and in real life a little girl would never react like that to it. She'd be like ummmm wtf? It's shmaltzy and over the top and very much aimed at the American market. As indeed the whole movie is. Much like Four Weddings and others, Richard Curtis may write "British" movies but what he actually does is write movies for Americans based on their romanticised idea of Britain. It's basically a cartoon with real life actors.
