I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but the episodes in the first series were originally broadcast in the wrong order. 'Ways and Means' and 'Men Without Women' should have been episodes three and four, while A Night In and A Day Out should have been five and six. Ever since, they have been repeated and even appear on the DVDs in that wrong order, hence the sudden disappearance of Godber in the last two, after having been so prominent in the previous two. That said, I think it may have been deliberate, because there was a sudden leap in quality with A Night In, so perhaps they put that strong episode in the middle to keep the audience with it.
