Have been looking forward to this one, the very first episode I saw that got me hooked when it first aired. Bought what VHS tapes I could straight away and used to go to the library to find others, simpler times...

Anybody else remember Spatz? Plus I’m wondering if Josh recognises Cassandra’s dad

Daniel Davies

What’s funny about this episode is that when the series was in production, someone leaked the script to the heads of the BBC who then told Grant & Naylor to not do the episode because it would be too expensive. The only problem was they had already finished filming, it was made in budget and it went on to win an Emmy.

I forgot legal age was 16 here... or at least used to be, I dunno what it is now? Tbh anyone under 26 feels like jailbait to me now lol.

So this episode won an Emmy in the States. Its one of my favorites. i love Rimmer beating up the cowboys and remarking 'Marvelous'. And your so right Josh everyone would use the AR machine for sex.

This was the episode Sir Patrick Stewart first saw and was contemplating calling his lawyers because he thought they were ripping off Star Trek (think they did a VR Western episode too). He ended up enjoying the episode and became a fan from then on, even recorded some Presented monologues from when the BBC did a dedicated Red Dwarf Night. Craig Charles (Lister) hated that he was the knife guy, thought it was the crappiest of the skills.

Forgot that it was this one but it did make me think of a Fistful of Datas which was the Trek episode

Jake Cross

Josh, the first clip of Red Dwarf that you reacted to was the clip from the previous episode, as you thought. I remember you guessed Cat was a space vampire. I remember you commenting on what you had heard about the Welsh language being gibberish as Rimmer mentions it in the clip. I forget what you thought the H on Rimmer's forehead was, but I think you guessed he was the captain.

It would have been a lot funnier if, after losing their special powers, the Riviera Kid was transformed into Duane Dibley. Liked this episode, for me it wasn't as unique as Legion but it did get a lot of gags and recurring themes in such as Lister's preoccupation with VR machines.

David Lyons

I love how the piano player in the bar is playing an old-timey version of the Red Dwarf theme tune :)

This was my favorite episode at the time, and the episode that came to mind when I used to recollect the series. I can remember laughing myself to tears continually, from one scene to another. The jokes hit so hard and consistently. The making of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7We4xcNHP3M

Ryan Lynch

It still is 16 for sex, 18 for drink, smoking now, gambling and pornography. If you have sex with a 16 year old it may not feel moral, but it wouldn't be illegal if it was consensual. Just don't take a picture of them naked amd distribute it... they are under 18.

Red Dwarf fans, if you haven't already seen these two YouTube posts check them out now. Thank me later. It's Robert Llewellyn (Kryton) Chatting with Craig Charles (Lister) and Chris Barrie (Rimmer) in a car. I agree man this was a great episode. This show just keeps getting better and better! Thanks for the link bud I will check that out.

Oh wow that is awesome man, thanks for sharing! It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission so they did it the right way lol.

Carpool was a great series, used to watch it religiously

Mr K

Never been a fan of this one. 🤔

The scene with Lister and the cat using Kryten’s eyes to pretend to be vindaloovians made me laugh so hard on first broadcast. Series 6 isn’t my favourite but it was such a must see. Three great episodes in and in my opinion at least one great episode in the second half.

Josh, I wanted you to see this: Aside from my JMC Mining Corporation and London Jets T-shirts, it's my only bit of Red Dwarf memorabilia; a laser etched glass depiction of Starbug. I can't tell you how hard this is to photograph! It looks much, much better in person. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eTI7rk7e6_Abu-0d4dEgaVuyJ-lke5tz/view?usp=sharing

ALW

I must admit, despite its popularity its never been one of my favourites; except the Vindaloovians of course. I couldn't really say why, but I suppose the Wild West angle wasn't one for me in particular! It was interesting to see that Rodney quitting his job apparently hit Cassandra's dad hard enough to become a rogue simulant though.

Mr Snrub

The bad guy, is the same actor who plays Cassandra's dad in Only Fools

starbugs crashed more times than a ZX81 so yh its tough

Happiest Aku

I can't remember if anyone mentioned it but if Rimmer is wearing his red coat that means he is in Softlight mode, if his coat is blue that means he is in Hardlight mode, which if you see this episode changes just like the previous one too.
