Excellent and very early! Cheers

Albert's funniest bits for me "who's Rachel?" and even Slater joins in telling him to shut up despite being in the middle of a heated discussion! AND when he has to look horrified about Rodney taking out another woman and keep cocking up the timing! Great character who really made a place for himself without ever treading on grandads toes . very hard position to be in and come into.

Forgot how good this one was actually. His “well we’ll call you Lord Rodney’ always cracks me up lol it’s so perfectly delivered

Just watched - that’s why this comedy is my all time favourite. Great acting, comedy, writing and performances.

Another well written episode and one that centred on Uncle Albert. Despite his usual tall tales the bit when they're down Tobacco Road is, I think, a genuine extract from Uncle Albert's real life. It was quite sad and poignant seeing how his old area had changed out of all recognition. I think that for once it added to his character as a real person before springing back to where he's the butt of all the jokes in the flat.

Thank you Josh for the early upload now I can watch your reaction on my way to work!! Excellent

I've always loved, "No way Pedro!" I say it to my kids in normal every day life all the time 😂. I think what makes it so funny is, knowing Del's character, you know it's not a quirky saying of his but rather another foreign language gone wrong and he's fucked up "no way Jose". He probably heard someone saying it in a bar, liked it and decided to use it, but mis-remembered the Spanish name he'd heard 😂. I took a pilgrimage to "Nelson Mandella House" and garages a year or so ago. If anyone is interested in visiting, it's here: Whitemead House, Duckmoor Rd, Bristol BS3 2ER

And Knock knock knocked him out! 😂😂 The writing in this show is terrific.

Alberts scene where he talks about the people he grew up with was beautifully acted out by Buster Merryfield. Buster was actually a bank manager who went into theatre acting, when he got the role of Albert he was so nervous he couldn’t get his lines out during filming his first episode and sat backstage nearly in tears thinking he was blowing his big break. When they went back out David Jason (Del) started messing his lines up and joked with the audience. This made Buster feel better and helped him settle into filming his scenes. He later said that David Jason never admitted to messing his lines up on purpose to help him out but he knew and was grateful for it.

The look on Del's face when Rodney sits in the chair cracks me up every time!

"Who's there?" "Knock Knock" 😂😂😂

Was great watching this one again and with your reaction Josh. Some really great lines, 'well we'll call you Lord Rodney!' was brilliant. Uncle Albert reminiscing made me tear up. I wish your OFAH reactions didn't have to end, I'll miss it so much when it's over, Fridays won't be the same lol.

Rodney this series sucks, he just moans moans moans. He has always been this kind of character, but he has just become so pathetic this series. He should be a man and go back to Cassandra and bang her. Women do not like a guy who mopes around feeling sorry for himself, so his approach is just a road to loneliness. If a woman goes out they're hit on by like 20 guys, as a man you always have to put yourself forward, the women doesn't need to come to you.

The roar Albert did was hilarious 🤣😂

Tobacco Road was the Shadwell Basin in Wapping, and really was part of the London Docks at one time. As people have pointed out, Albert's monologue was grounded in reality, the docks were all closed in the sixties and seventies and the area fell into disrepair. It got "regenerated" in the eighties, not for the benefit of the existing residents but largely for big business and luxury property developers and speculators. The gentrification/social cleansing of the Docklands (and London in general) continues today; interestingly, the Docklands Arena behind which Del Boy wants to watch the sun set got pulled down itself some years ago to build luxury apartments. I also remember watching this episode for the first time and the montage with the Paul McCartney song always sticking with me. I always thought the shots of late eighties/early nineties London had a strange bleak beauty about them. I think OFAH is definitely one of the best produced sitcoms ever, and that's a great example of how well made and brilliantly soundtracked it is.

Where uncle Albert is standing is Tobacco Dock in London. Now called Shadwell basin which is about a 5 min walk from my Grans house. I believe it’s called Tobacco dock as a lot of ships used to dock there bringing in cigarettes and all sorts. My grandad used to be able to go down there and get some of the goods that were brought in even if some of the stuff was partially damaged that they couldn’t sell.

When I first watched this as a kid I assumed that was a song made for the show, I googled it today, was surprised to learn it was by Paul McCartney! (In fact I was totally unaware of his solo gap from '70-'71 between The Beatles and Wings!) By the way, you know how punk rockers were fans of rock music of the day in the 70's? Teddy Boys were the equivalent of that but for early rock & roll in the 50's in Britain. I guess the American equivalent would be greasers (maybe? At any rate, both were associated with teenage rebellion) but Teddy Boys wore smart tailored suits rather than leather jackets and jeans.

I've always liked how the series shifted away from Del's weekly get-rich-quick schemes and started to explore their personal lives more. Often comedies get 'stuck', but there's a real sense of progression and character development here. Still, the underlying current of Del's schemes continues to underpin everything which makes it still feel true to form.

AfterWorkReactions

I agree man they did a great transition with that, I did love his schemes lol but it is great to have more in depth characters.

One the funniest lines in the episode was when they are trying to figure out excuses for the missing 10 years in Rodneys employment record and Albert says “you could say you got lost”. The look Rodney gives him is hilarious

David Jason (Del) is 81 years old now and Nicholas Lyndhurst (Rodney) is 60. Where does time go?! Cassandra is around 60 too and she's still a proper milf!
