Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!    Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!!

Poor Rodney screwed up at the auction again lol. I didn't understand why he put the mail back through the slot. I looked up the CD sticker, I think I found the correct meaning( corps diplomatique) let me know if I am wrong. This was a good episode I really enjoyed it. That 2 grand would have been a nice come up sucks they didn't get it. I love how Rodney was too reserved on the stand and Del was too over the top lol. The scene when uncle Albert said he just wanted to repay the boys and get a gravestone for his big brother was sad :-(. But they did a good job ending the episode with a laugh when Del said hey why am I pushing you, you can walk you old sod lol.

Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

Been waiting on this one bro!!

This was actually intended as the first episode of the fourth series had it not been for Leonard Pearces sad passing during production of it whom had actually already competed some of his scenes for this episode in place of Uncle Alberts character (whom was written in after having him be introduced in the previous episode) indeed there are some production photos easily available online featuring Grandad in the wheelchair outside the court instead of Albert- the footage however has never been available to the public. In fact if you go back and watch the scene near the beginning where Del & Albert are chatting to Mike (who is at at the bottom of the beer cellar- “I want a word with you Trotter”) you might notice that when the camera is behind Del & Albert looking down at Mike that it is actually Grandad stood with Del and NOT Albert (you can tell this by the colour of Grandads coat- even if you can only see his shoulder) this is the only remnant of this episodes recorded Grandad scenes that remains in tact to this day. Such a shame- would give anything to be able to see them after all this time.

This was originally supposed to be the opening episode of this series, with Grandad and they had already shot some of the location scenes (There are some photographs of Lennard Pearce in the wheelchair at the end outside the courthouse), but of course, when Lennard passed away a few days into it, it was pushed back and re-filmed with Uncle Albert. The only piece of footage that exists from Lennard's shoots are the ones with Mike down in the cellar looking up at Del, which were used in the episode.

In this episode they refer to the P*ki Shop. Don't use that term, Josh...it's VERY racist these days. I mean, it always was, but in the olden days, people were a bit stupid! haha.

Happy holidays Josh, hope all is well! Quick question, will you still upload next week on Xmas day?

When I first saw this episode I was on holiday with relatives in County Mayo Ireland. Nice people but much older so I was cracking up and needed to make a run for England. I made up a story about loving English football and really wanting to go see a match. They asked who I liked, the only team I knew was from this episode, so I said Millwall. I got out of there for a weekend but the looks they gave me were disturbing. It wasn't until years later when I saw a Panorama episode on youtube about Millwall that I realized why the looks of terror. Telling your elderly aunt you support a team that's song is "We are Millwall, no one likes, we don't care" and has a supporter group named F-Troop did not leave a good impression.

CD stands for Diplomatic Corps (in French - Corps Diplomatique) so immune from prosecution

He put the mail back through the letterbox because they were bills.

Actor playing Solly Atwell the solicitor is still alive. Colin Jeavons turned 91 in October.

Uncle Albert meant nothing nasty when saying that. If you think about it, it's only the same as calling someone British a Brit, or someone from Afghanistan an Afghani. Only when prefacing the word with a negative adjective should it be considered racial.

Gregory = Gregory Peck = Neck. Most common usage : "Get that down ya Gregory" when at the pub.

I used to work down the road from the New Den and where the Old Den was. South Bermondsey and New Cross are two of the few parts of London that are yet to be touched by gentrification, and are comprised largely of desolate industrial estates and cheaply-built (but still expensive) housing estates. You can see why Millwall has the reputation it does, because if I lived there, I'd be angry too.

That is sad man I will have to look up those photos. I did enjoy this episode but you can for sure feel that Grandad is gone. I do like Uncle Albert though I do think he is enjoyable and a good addition to the show. Take care man have a great holiday =]

Great episode and reaction Josh! This is one of my favourites from Albert's early years. Buster Merryfield had no previous acting experience and was as posh (speaking voice) as the Queen in real life so he completely reinvents himself for Albert. Nick Lyndhurst is also much more well spoken in real life than Rodney but he has been in quite a few other British comedies and dramas where you hear his true speaking voice. The letters being posted back through the letterbox by Albert was just a joke where Albert realises they're bills and decides the household have no intention of paying them. The reason I am guessing here that it might not have made sense to you is that in the UK all (well, the vast majority) is delivered through a letter box in the front door, landing inevitably in the hallway or in a receptacle attached to the back of the door. In this way, all mail is delivered directly into the residence. In America I believe mail is left in a mail box outside the property and the resident collects it. I'm not sure if that is the case everywhere in the US but I know it's far more common than in the UK! Hope that helps and if that wasn't what confused you then at least it was a vaguely interesting bit of additional trivia! Haha!

Bills and government fines in the UK typically arrive in a brown envelope. Albert didn't need to see who the letters were for.

Used to call him the Jimmy Saville of Peckham.... lol.

Thanks for the reaction :) Can't believe it'll Christmas this time next week! This year has been mental. I hope you're going to take a well deserved break over Xmas Josh x

grandad made us all laugh and made us all feel not easy to do both extremes

Hey Josh, one of my favourite episodes. The fire damaged box - the trotters are always buying damaged stock because they can get it cheap. If its fire damaged, water damaged or has something missing, the Trotters will have it. With regards to uncle Albert and the mail. They were bills. He was "sending them back to where they came from". One of the pubs Albert conned was the Victory Inn, Portsmouth - I used to work weekends in that pub for extra money when I was in the Navy (if I wasn't deployed).

This is the weakest episode of this series imo but still a decent episode, the rest of series 4 is great though. I really look forward to the next one especially

Craig

(Copied & pasted from an only fools forum) This episode was originally written for Grandad and meant to be the fourth series' opening episode, but unfortunately, Lennard Pearce died from a heart attack after the filming of Grandad falling down the Nag's Head cellar and the courthouse scene. The episode was put on hold after Christmas 1984, and "Happy Returns" and "Strained Relations" were written and filmed as the first two episodes for this series. Once Buster Merryfield joined the cast, the scenes with Grandad were re-shot with Albert (the only shots of the Grandad version kept in the Uncle Albert version were Mike looking up at Grandad). The rest of the original footage has never been transmitted, and is not available on DVD.

and a regional bank manager before becoming a professional actor. i believe he left banking to play uncle Albert? apologies if this has been mentioned.

Teddy Alison

I love this episode. Great storyline and really introduces Uncle Albert well. What’s the schedule for next week Josh as it’s Christmas etc? We all deserve a break haha
