poiler Free: Short and Sweet this was a really good episode.  I don't know what to say without spoiling it lol.

Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!    Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!

While watching this episode I was thinking dude you did what you said you wouldn't do and set your expectations too high. After a couple of you said this was a really good episode, I was amped. This was a slow burn, there were funny moments but it felt like any other episode of Only fools until the end. What a fantastic ending there was so much to like about it. I love Grand Dad coming down the stairs with a huge smile completely oblivious to the fact he broke the chandelier. Grandad asking is it very valuable Del "saying no not really it was bleeding priceless when it was hinging up there though". Them running away from the scene of the crime lmao. This was one of the best episodes I have seen so far. I'm going to put it on the list with the Gambling episode and the episode Del pretended to be a ghost and to scare grandad.

Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

As always I would love to read your comments below

Such an iconic scene for British TV in this episode. I really envy that you have all the later series and the tons of feature specials they did to still watch! They are way better than the early shows in my opinion. Can’t wait for you to get to them!

Tony Smyth

Priceless is right. You can't buy stuff like this.

Manly Stump

Yeah a lot of people say this is one of the best ever episodes, but apart from the big laugh at the end I think it's pretty average. I would agree it's one of the best ever SCENES though!

Steve Small

When Del is talking about "the wedding", he means the wedding of Charles and Diana.

Tony Smyth

There are way too many jokes that I know are going over your head Josh. I haven't got time to explain them all. I'm just thankful that you got some of them, because when you smile you make me laugh, and when you laugh I cry with laughter. Keep on ROCKIN'

Steve Small

Brassic is cockney rhyming slang. Brassic lint = skint = broke, no cash.

This was the first only fools episode to gather over 10 milIon viewing audience. By the start of season 4 every episode gets between 15-20 million.

So much to talk about this episode. Firstly, this was based on real life events. John Sullivan’s father worked as a cleaner and he did work in a large house where one of his colleagues did unscrew the wrong chandelier. John thought it was funny, but his father didn’t because they all lost their jobs. So, when it came to this episode, John was scared that when his father called him after the episode aired, he was going to be angry, but luckily he just said ‘Yeah, ok, that was funny’. Also, when filming the chandelier scene, David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst were told by the director that, because they could only afford one chandelier to fall, that if either of them laugh or giggle, then they would be fired and that would be the end of the show. So when the chandelier dropped, Nick recalls that out of the corner of his eye, he could see the director’s entire body shaking and then slowly stuffing a handkerchief into his mouth to stifle his own laughter.

Just to add further context that's 1/3rd of the UK population

Funny cause whenever I speak to a native Chinese person, they've never heard of eating Dog. I think it must be a region or a poor person thing to do.

😂😂😂 classic. I watched an interview about this episode and that chandelier that fell was actually very valuable so they literally had one shot at the scene

Steve Small

The chandelier scene is British comedy gold. The scene was filmed in a single take. David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst (Del and Rodney) were warned not to laugh or break character in any way as the replica chandelier cost £6000 and they would not be able to afford to finish the series if the scene was spoiled in any way. David and Nicholas have spoken in interviews before, saying it was the hardest scene they have ever had to shoot for that reason. They said they were on the edge of bursting into laughter all the way through and only just managed to hold it together. Thank god!

Sam Dilks

They only had the budget for one chandelier and the producer Ray Butt warned Nicholas Lyndhurst, Rodney, they have one take and if he or Del laughs that's the scene binned, that's the show done and their jobs would be finished. So come to the scene and Rodney and Del are doing everything they have in them to not laugh and ruin the shot, meanwhile Nicholas can see the same producer behind Del with his shoulders moving up and down and shoving tissue paper in his own mouth to stop himself from laughing, meanwhile Nicholas just has to stay still until the end of the scene. Ray Butt also said in an interview, this moment was the loudest studio audience laughter he'd ever heard.

Sam Dilks

As Del holds a porcelain doll, "Dude you're gonna break something", well you say that......

I hear what you're saying about a slow burner - although, in fact, that's generally what to expect from a traditional British sitcom. It's less about the constant jab jab jab of funny, but a build-up to a huge final gag. This is probably one of the finest examples of that.

TheHigh

how interesting is this , this is from granddad / Lennard Pearce ! As a young actor in the 1930s, he went on a performance tour in Germany. One theatrical performance was attended by senior members of the Nazi Party; at the end of the show, party officials came backstage to congratulate the cast, and Pearce shook hands with Adolf Hitler. Pearce later told his Only Fools and Horses co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst that he regretted not taking the opportunity to kill Hitler.

Kieran B

Used to have to clean a chandelier like this, but not quite as valuable, at a National Trust property. Always thought of this scene. It was actually connected to a rope in the attic so you could lower it down Great reaction as always mate, especially for such a ‘British’ episode, always end up laughing like I did when I first saw these years ago

NEXUS

Such an underwhelming episode, everyone raves about the pay off scene but there's so many funnier scenes and episodes of OFAH.

BelladonnicHazeyJaneII

Thanks for the reaction, Josh. I'm not that keen on the episode overall but the chandelier bit is classic :D there are so many better episodes to come though.

AfterWorkReactions

OMG I can't believe they made it they are so goofy lol. That is a hilarious story man. I appreciate that you all know so much about it because it adds so much to the show honestly. Thanks bud and stay safe =]

AfterWorkReactions

That is awesome man, I am surprised that they made it without laughing. I don't think I could ever be an actor because I would be cracking up constantly. Thanks man stay safe =]

AfterWorkReactions

That is awesome though, I enjoy the layout of these types of shows, because it does payoff lol =] Thanks man stay safe.

That's fantastic thanks for all the info bud . I love this type of background information it definitely increases my appreciation for the scene . Good thing his dad has a good sense of humour . I love when jokes or characters are based on true events or real people .Most of the time you watch a show or a movie and don't think about how much work goes into it . Thanks again for sharing behind the scenes info.

The actor who plays Rodney was told by the director that they can only shoot this once because they could only afford one chandelier. So if he laughed in that shot he would've been fired.

Teddy Alison

One of my favourite episodes haha. The next episode Josh is “Diamonds are for Heather”. Make sure you don’t miss no specials at the end of each season as they are usually important and very good episodes

AfterWorkReactions

This was a really good episode I really enjoyed it. Thanks man I won't miss any of the specials. Normally everyone is good at alerting me of any thing special coming up.
