VEGGIE GAMER

Yeah this is definitely one of the best episodes! XD I really love how you seem to enjoy the American News sketches, and YES, she has been pulling those faces at the end of each story! XD As for the soap opera, I love it, but get if it isn't everyone's cup of tea. It basically makes zero sense and is just a very basic parody with terrible acting and dialogue. Though I think this was the final part of that anyway! XD Really loving your reactions to these! Final one next week!

Saul

I think there were a bunch of crap soaps launched by the big channels around this time, and the Bureau is a parody of just how stupid and lazy the setups always were Also quite a lot of 'issues' being dealt with in these soaps, like people being gay. Anna Friel in Brookside, etc. Everything is very specific to the time which means some of it is difficult to follow without the context. But you're right that it's still funny. There's a great joke in a Simpsons episode where a kid gets a Malibu Stacey doll and when she pulls the string on its back to make it speak, instead of saying something nice and girly it says 'MY SPIDEY SENSES ARE TINGLING'. That joke just made me laugh so much, it was so ridiculous and to me what made it so funny was that it came out of nowhere - but I had no idea until a lot later that it was based on a true story about a group of feminist activists replacing the voiceboxes in Barbie dolls with male voiceboxes from action figures like GI Joe. So I suppose in a way I wasn't getting the joke properly. Yet it still made me laugh; TBH it made me laugh more when I didn't know the real world events it was parodying. Really, this whole show should be impossible to follow and completely unfunny because it's all so specific, but it isn't at all. And maybe not knowing the real world context in some cases makes it more funny, not less.

You may recognise the old ladies from Knowing Me Knowing You - they played former Olympic hurdlers and were equally as good then.
