I played junior Olympic softball, My Grandma would “spit” ( like the superstitious trying to ward off bad spirits) on every new pair of cleats I got. This would help with hitting. I was a catcher so I’d get 2 pair a season. Everyone thought it was crazy, until I started a hitting streak. Then ALL the girls would line up so Grams could spit on their cleats! BTW, I had a 640 batting average!
